Chair's Welcome

Welcome to the webpage of the Sustainable and Renewable Energy Engineering (SREE) Department. The department is a vibrant hub of teaching and research activities. Currently, two degrees are being offered under its general umbrella; a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Sustainable and Renewable Energy Engineering as well as a master's degree (MScSREE). Our undergraduate program is accredited by both ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) and the Ministry of Education while the master program is accredited by the latter, with ABET accreditation coming soon.

The SREE department has an excellent team of highly qualified faculty members, bringing a world-class experience from reputable international universities from east and west. With students at the center of the perceived educational process, faculty and technical staff guarantee a rich interaction through classes and labs for an experience that would last a lifetime. The labs in particular are tailored to foster hands-on application of theoretical knowledge and even conduct leading research under the supervision of capable faculty members.

Along with a solid background in engineering fundamentals, the students graduate to have knowledge in energy/power related fields in electrical and mechanical engineering disciplines. The courses cover various topics on energy sources, conversion and storage, including solar, wind, hydro-geothermal, biomass to name a few. This can be done from a technical, economical, and environmental points of view. The offered courses along with the practical training help students prepare for their future professional careers.

Students are encouraged to join in on the activities that are offered by the SREE department as well as enrol in student communities, most notably the SREE club, which nurtures the spirit of leadership, teamwork and social problem solving.

The department enjoys strong collaborations with partners from the industrial sectors such as Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA), Sharjah National Oil Corporation (SNOC), Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), and EDF among other prestigious companies. These companies offer internship and job opportunities for high achieving students. In recent years, the SREE Department stands as one of the most preferable specializations in the College of Engineering with an undergraduate enrollment of over 500+ students, and with MScSREE which launched in spring 2022, more opportunities will be available to push student careers further.
