I have been involved in teaching and research for almost two decades. I have been fortunate to be able to attach with University of Sharjah (as an Associate/Assistant Professor), National University of Singapore (as a Research Fellow), and Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (as a Lecturer/Assistant Professor). I believe the fundamental goal of teaching is to foster learning. I am an instructor because I have a passion for guiding students through the learning process. Students learn better when they are thoroughly involved in the learning process, not just passive receivers of information; students are motivated to learn when the teacher communicates with clarity and makes well-organized use of class-room time, and when they are treated with absolute equality, regardless of age, gender, nationality, intellectual ability or personal attractiveness. Creating such an environment has enabled me to help students solve problems, think critically, and communicate effectively. I try to effectively utilize multimedia to increase students’ interest and draw their attention. However, I am also reticent to displace the traditional face-to-face interaction of lecture and discussion that is so important for learning. In all the courses I teach, I develop a well-organized lecture note based on the text book and related references; all references are clearly mentioned in the lecture note so that the students are encouraged to look at them; I discuss theories and their applications in real life through solving IE related problems/case studies in the class. Direct students participation is encouraged through mandated oral presentation. Student responsibility for the analysis, preparation and presentation of term-project engages them more deeply in the learning process. The inherent objective is to prepare the students so that they can contribute to their organizations and to the larger community, and to enable them to grow professionally and personally throughout their careers.
