The Department of Basic Sciences is a service department. It
offers different courses to foundation-year students and to students of other
departments. Its primary mission, therefore, consists in giving knowledge and
cultural support to all college students regardless of their specializations. Although
it does not offer any diploma, the Department of Basic Sciences plays a vital
and cardinal role in equipping students with the necessary knowledge in the
fields of Arabic language, ESP, mathematics, statistics, and Islamic culture.
The Department of Basic Sciences centers on a
fundamental principle: the commitment of its members to the careful and
stimulating dissemination of knowledge in the above-stated fields and to the
free development, exchange and debate of ideas.
Each of these commitments includes teaching and community service in
various forms and to varying degrees of involvement. This statement is so simple as to be easily
internalized and translated into action by all members of the department.
