“ I graduated from the department of English language and literature at the University of Sharjah. The department enlightened my mind by providing me with knowledge and useful skills. At first, I was a very shy student who panicked whenever I had to do a presentation, but thanks to all my respectful professors and instructors who encouraged me with their valuable advices and wonderful efforts they exerted, my personality changed a lot and I became one of the best students. As for my studying experience at DELL, it was very enriching and enhancing. My professors and instructors have taught me not only how to pass with high grades but also how to be confident, build up my personality, and improve my skills in reading, writing, and creative thinking. Therefore, many courses were very interesting and gave me a way toward thinking about continuing my Masters degree in translation, such as the translation courses (Media translation, Legal and business translation, and literary translation), and linguistics courses (contrastive linguistics, Error analysis, Sociolinguistics and phonetics and phonology). “Majoring in English language and literature at the University of Sharjah was and still is a wonderful experience, for its shades, memories, and benefits are still reflected in my higher studies and work. One of its outstanding characteristics is the fusion of three different English fields of study i.e. translation, linguistics, and literature. Translation courses helped me in improving my English as well as Arabic language. By applying what I learned in linguistics classes in translation, such as knowing the difference between English and Arabic since they come from two different families, my language became better and better. Also, literature, that magical, imaginative, and magnificent world helped me escape from daily life worries and taught me how to write short stories and Shakespearian sonnets. My professors were one in a million because they are professional and always used to encourage and help me. These years passed in the blink of an eye and I would not mind going through this experience again!”

Dear Dr Ghanim Thank you so much for being one of the eminent speakers at the first Dubai Translation Conference held in Dubai, in partnership with the Executive Office of Dubai. All of us were so pleased by the enthusiasm and interest shown by the delegates, and their hunger for learning from this excellent group of experts in the various fields of translation, interpreting, including Arabic sign language, the Arabic language and writing. It was such a delight to be part of the audience each day, and see the levels of engagement and discussion that took place. As a first attempt, I think we can all be delighted with the success of this Conference on so many levels. The Emirates Literature Foundation set out to create a Translation Conference with a difference; entertaining and fun were key words when we planned the sessions. I believe thanks to the support and willingness of our speakers, it worked!
