2004-2008 Medical research Council (UK) studentship for PhD in stem cells at University of Leeds
I am member of the following committees in the department of Applied Biology: Curriculum and accreditation committee: Recruitment committee Laboratory and safety committee Scientific committee Student advising and training committee
I have been involved in University teaching since 2010 and I have enjoyed it ever since. Hence, I have extensive teaching experience to both post-graduate and undergraduate students. I have taught variety of courses to both undergraduate and postgraduate students at the department of Applied Biology and a master course in the college of medicine. To achieve excellence and effectiveness in teaching, effective teachers should prepare themselves prior to lectures and then deliver the lectures in enjoyable and friendly manner. I prepare myself before every lecture to deliver good knowledge to students during formal lectures. To prepare myself, I read the latest materials in the relevant books and in the recent journals. These preparations have increased my subjects’ knowledge and given me further motivation to read and take out research in the subjects in addition to imparting the latest knowledge to my students. Effective teachers should always encourage questions from their students; I always encourage my students to ask students even if I am delivering the lectures. Furthermore, face to face meetings with students is essential to my methodology as many students need to be encouraged to meet with their teachers, hence I make sure to be available to students at my office hours. These meetings provide me enough time to solve their academic issues. Apart from teaching, students should also be advised about the choice of their courses. Effective teachers should advise students on how to prepare their schedules and how to upgrade their cumulative averages. I also utilize my office hours to direct students before and after exams and discuss the different points that help them to perform better. Good and influential teachers should establish effective ways to challenge students to enhance their learning and skills. The learning experience acquired by students can be effective if students are challenged and tested. I believe learning should encompass Bloom’s cognitive taxonomy of six various dimensions: evaluation, synthesis, analysis, application, comprehension, and knowledge. Using these different cognitive dimensions, effective teachers should equip students to acquire, understand, and comprehend subject effectively so that the students can recall the acquired learning in any future context including formal exams. Students’ knowledge and skills should be fairly and thoroughly assessed during examination. To achieve this objective, good teachers should use different assessment tools such as homework, quizzes and formal examination to assess students’ performance. Students’ evaluations and feedbacks should be taken as indicator of the teacher’s performance. Good teachers should alter teaching methods and take into account the students’ comments and feedbacks Using these methodologies, I have taught very effectively to undergraduate and postgraduate students at University of Sharjah since my joining in September 2013. I have taught the following courses since 2013: Master courses: Advanced Cell Biology (1450 512) Regulation of Genes expression (1450 543) Selected Topics in Biotechnology B (1450 592B) Gene Expression (090070211) Undergraduate courses: Cell Biology (1450251) Molecular Developmental Biology (1450454) Selected Topics in Biotechnology A (145049A) Selected Topics in Biotechnology B (145049B) Seminar (1450491) Ethical Aspects of Biotechnology (1450496) Tissue Culture and hybridoma (1450361) Graduate Research Project (1450494) Molecular Biology (14504511)
