My past long experience in top leading academic posts, in different national and international higher education institutions, in addition to more than thirty five years of experience in fields of teaching, learning and research, provided to me the opportunity to lead, supervise and mentor colleagues to develop teaching and learning in many higher education institutes. Future prospective of universities, strategic thinking, integration of research in teaching and learning, improving and strengthening soft, technical and research skills to develop the required competencies in students, innovative methodologies in teaching and learning, smart teaching technologies are among the priority list to ensure smooth transformational change and to improve teaching and learning concepts. Students, faculty and stallholders are always part of my working team to participate, develop, implement and follow up of such strategies.
In my classes, I use all possible, available and suitable teaching and learning methodologies to make sure that my students understand, able to apply and develop concepts into practical and real practices that suit local and/or worldwide environments. The ability of learners to improve, develop and create ideas and/or products and to connect that with their future carrier, are part of the core learning process.
Thinking is one of the core concepts in teaching and learning. Once the student understood the information I try to develop all types of thinking e.g vertical, horizontal, critical to develop thinking skills and to transfer the student further to analysis, synthesis and creativity. I request students to ask questions and to give their feedback and responses to the material covered in the class and in the course. Consequently, I take such opportunity to inspire my students and I encourage a dialogue, to extract or develop concepts and to test their capability to suggest new ideas, application or a new line of product if possible. Future prospective, opportunities, possibility of developing a new private business and ethical issues are very important in our discussions.
I engage students in my active and collaborative teaching during classes to develop their soft skills. There is a good opportunity for learners to share ideas, develop collaboration skills and learn from the various perspectives of their peers. Soft skills such as leadership, team building, good communication, critical thinking and work ethics are developed in students during my lectures through their assignments, tutorials, visits, groups, practical sessions, presentations, graduation projects, internship, research, feedback and exams. I usually assign projects for my students in microbiology, biotechnology and environment to develop their soft, technical and research skills using available resources World Wide Web and other Internet related resources.
