I graduated from University of Sharjah (UOS) in 2021 with a Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology. I can undoubtedly say that the 4 years I’ve spend in this program were the best. The faculty members, who are enthusiastic, encouraging, and patient, helped me enhance my academic and interpersonal skills. I think one of the main strengths of this program is that students apply a variety of techniques learned in theoretical classes during laboratory classes, training program and research project. In summary, my experience at UOS was an unforgettable one and has prepared me well for the next step in my life.

The variety of courses taught in the department gives students a deep dive into the different disciplines they may pursue, and the numerous applications that could be utilized to better increase our understanding and expand our knowledge. The laboratory classes were by far my favourite, where theoretical work comes into action under the supervision of excellent instructors that always offered a helping hand. I’m grateful and appreciative of all faculty members that made me feel at home and were supportive and kind at every stage throughout my studies making sure I’m guided towards excellency. A wonderful community of thinkers and innovators, that certainly made the experience far more enjoyable and memorable. I choose biotechnology because it is a field that i am very passionate about. It is a very broad major with multiple disciplines that range from medical biotechnology to animal and plant biotechnology. The variety of the courses taught by the faculty really helps the students build a strong foundation and helps them get a better understanding in what it is they are most interested in. We were very blessed to have a hard working faculty that was very nice and supportive and yet still pushed us to do our best. In terms of extra-curricular activities, I had the pleasure of being a part of the Biotechnology Scientific Student Society (BSSS) where many formal department events as well as fun playful events are held to bring the biotechnology community closer together. My personal favorite part about the last 4 years was the laboratory classes in which we perform the experiments we studied in class, which helps understand the material better and shows us how its applied in practical. All in all, my experience as an undergraduate was unforgettable, I learned a lot and met incredible people and this experience has prepared me for my post-graduate life on a personal and a professional level.
