FAMILY MEDICINE:
Family medicine is a medical specialty that provides continuous and comprehensive medical care for individuals and families. The family medicine program in our faculty is carried out in Year five for 7 weeks in specific health care centers around the Emirates.
Our department delivers this program to encourage our students to take an active role as future members of healthcare system, to learn to be responsible for patient management and to work effectively with other members of healthcare teams and to develop skills as future medical professionals. Furthermore, it emphasizes team work, communications skills, ethics, professionalism and evidence based medicine that is an integral constituent of the program. During their study our students are expected to learn different aspects of family medicine, diagnose and discuss different medical conditions encountered in Primary Health Care (PHC). Moreover, they are expected to counsel and
educate patients in order to prevent or lessen the severity of their conditions. Our students attend prenatal care, well-baby clinic, periodic checkup and premarital consultations.
COMMUNITY MEDICINE:
Community Medicine is covered in Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3 of our medical curriculum. It covers concepts in Population Studies (Demography and Epidemiology), Community Based Research (CBR). Furthermore, research methodology, biostatistics, environmental, occupational medicine, health promotion and community medicine and Research Based Learning (RBL).
