Welcome Note from the Coordinator

Welcome to this very important phase of your MBBS program. The clerkship is a course of clinical medical training in a specialty (as medicine, surgery, pediatrics and obstetrics and gynecology) and in their sub-specialty, that will last ten weeks in each specialty and will take place during the fourth and fifth years of medical school. You will be introduced to clinical medicine. You will be required to develop the skills and knowledge needed to take an accurate history, conduct physical examination and formulate an appropriate differential diagnosis. It will also introduce you to the principles of developing a management/treatment plan for various diagnoses.

The program will be carried out specific hospitals around the Emirates. All the co-coordinators from these hospitals in collaboration with College of Medicine have worked to devise this program that will enable you to grow in knowledge and understanding of science and art of Medicine. Above all we want you to successfully complete the program with a passion for learning various aspects of modern medicine, a love of life-long learning, and the confidence to go on acquiring the clinical knowledge and skills that you will use for rest of your life.

Yours clinical program is supported overwhelmingly by the staff of the participating hospitals who are committed to passing on their knowledge. During the clerkship program you will meet a large number of hospital staff who will endeavor to encapsulate the critical knowledge in the specialty. Make the most of the opportunities and their generosity. The final goal of the program is to encourage the students to take an active role as a member of the health care team, to learn to be responsible for patient management, to learn to work effectively with other members of the health care team and to develop skills as a professional.

So good luck! The Department of Clinical Sciences is here to support you and hope to make your clerkship program a fabulous one in both professional and personal development that inevitably arises from the privilege of being part of the team delivering health care to the people we seek to serve.
