Pediatrics is a major discipline in the Clerkship rotation in the 4th year of the MBBS program at the College of Medicine, University of Sharjah. It is a discipline with its uniqueness with regard to core knowledge, skills and attitude needed to care for a child. The field is dynamic; dealing with growing human-beings whose health integrity will affect them for the rest of their lives. Therefore mastering or at least acquainting oneself with the art of maintaining health of infants, children and adolescents is extremely important for any medical student.
Finding ones way into this discipline is full of challenges and new medical students need guidance and landmarks to find their way. Hence this booklet is prepared to serve as a roadmap to help them during the Pediatric Clerkship.
We encourage students to make maximum use of the resource people and resource material available in the department including nurses, Interns and Residents. Likewise they are advised to be members of the teams in the wards.
