Coronavirus (COVID-19) Infection Prevention and Control Manual

Novel Coronavirus COVID-19 is a new strain of coronavirus that can cause respiratory infections in humans. It was first identified in December 2019 in China and has spread rapidly around the world. Most people who catch COVID-19 only feel mild symptoms, but some can get extremely ill.

Corona virus is a large family of viruses that cause illness in humans and animals. Corona virus is one of seven types of known human coronaviruses. SARS COV2 like the MERS and SARS coronaviruses, likely evolved from a virus previously found in animals.

The estimated incubation period is unknown and currently considered to be up to 14 days post exposure.


The objectives of this document are:

  • To provide guidance on COVID-19 infection prevention and control
  • To detail the measures necessary to protect students, faculty, administrative and visitors in the college of medicine
  • To provide practical steps/ protocol to control/prevent COVID-19 infection
  • Provide up-to-date information about COVID-19 infection prevention
