The launching of the first-of-its-kind program in the Middle East was announced by Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of the UoS, during a press conference held at UoS in presence of H.E. Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director General of GCAA; and Laila Ali Hareb Al Muhairi, Assistant Director General - Strategy and International Affairs Sector – GCAA. Also attended the launching ceremony, Salem Al Shamsi, Fahd Al Rayes, and Saeed Al Muhairi from GCAA; Prof. Bashar Hikmet Malkawi, Dean of the College of Law; Prof. Mahmoud Faiad, Associate Professor – College of Law; and Prof. Iman Naboush, Assistant Professor of Commercial and Air Law – College of Law.
Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy stressed the importance of the new master program in the UAE, as the State has given space and astronomy paramount importance, pioneering in the fields of space against many advanced countries. The UoS is now one of the largest universities in the UAE and the region, in terms of the number of admitted students, offered programs, research groups and centers of excellence. He also stressed that His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah and President of UoS, always advises to launch academic programs to fulfill the needs of the local job market and the region.
The importance of the Master program in Air and Space Law arises from the impressive progress worldwide in the field of space exploration and satellite, which encourages world countries to compete to secure a position in the space race as satellite debris spread around the Earth, added Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy. He said, the program is accredited by the Ministry of Education. The UoS will also seek to obtain international accreditation. The new master program, which will be opened for students in September 2018, aims to solve the problem of the limited number of experts in this field as it combines several disciplines: law, astronomy, space, security, economics and other. The program is one of the important multi-disciplinary programs the UoS has been keen on launching in collaboration with world universities.
