Dr. Wafa Khalfan is an emerging scholar who comes to academia with over a decade of industry experience in different sectors, and immense expertise in international conference management, entrepreneurship and non-profit organizations in the Middle East and the United Kingdom. She completed her doctoral training at the Centre for Cultural Policy Research (CCPR), University of Glasgow (PhD in Media and Cultural Policy). She holds an MA in Communication (University of Sharjah) and BSc. in Computer Science with a Minor in Mass Communication (American University of Sharjah). She has been an active member in society as she curated the first ever TEDx event in Sharjah (TEDxSharjah -2012), served as a board member (Emirates Society for Consumer Protection), and volunteered for different causes such as culture (Emirates Women Writers’ Association), entrepreneurship (Sharjah Capability Development), social integration (Refugee Survival Trust -Scotland) and education (Glasgow ESOL Forum). Dr. Wafa Khalfan is interested in investigating sociopolitical changes through the lens of media and technology. Her work (in progress) includes research that investigates digital platforms and the influence of technology on journalism.

Dr. Wafa Khalfan is an Associate Fellow of Recognizing Excellence in Teaching (RET AF). She is keen on empowering learners with transferable skills to improve their employability opportunities and entrepreneurial mindset by: • developing their critical thinking tools. • safeguarding an inclusive space for free academic speech. • maintaining their well-being. • providing guidance for learning, creating, and progressing.
