Meriem Aoudia said :

I had the chance to participate in the National stage Huawei ICT competition and made it to the regional final stage with two other students from the University of Fujairah based on the national exam points that students from different UAE universities did.

UAE Huawei team provided us with all things needed such as the laptops that we will use in the competition, transportation, hotel reservation, flight tickets to and from, a black hoodie (as each country has a specific color to wear).

The trip was 3 days long from 20/12 to 22/12, and we had an agenda to follow with time of checking in, gathering, interviews and so on.

On the first day me, a team manager Jessica, a photographer and an instructor from the university of Fujairah that came with the two other students in my team, we went to Oman, met the teams got to know each other, had pictures for media, got the plan ready for the next exam day.

The second day was the examination day where we had to wake up early in the morning to gather, took a bus and went to Omantel headquarters. We attended the guest welcoming and the opening speeches by Mr Wang Shunli and Oman government, then, they introduced us to the agenda and regulations also the oath of both examiners and student representatives (which I was one of).

There were 15 teams (each team with 3 students) from 11 different Middle East and Central Asia countries and from 472 universities selected among more than 19,000 participants.

After this we went to the room to do the written exam which is the first part of the competition. It took an hour to do individually and had (T/F and MCQs questions). The topics we were examined about are AI, Security, Cloud Computing, Datacom, Routing and Switching basically the content we learned from the Huawei platform for the competition.

After this we had the lab exam which took 4 hours to do. We used a software called eNSP which is a network simulation to do the lab as teams and had to solve the 9 tasks given.

After we were done, we went to the hotel to rest and get ready for the awarding ceremony that was held in the Sultan Qaboos University and attended the speeches by Oman government and China ambassador. Then we got the results:

1st: Jordan

2nd: Pakistan + Iraq

3rd: UAE + Kazakhstan + Bahrain

with the awarding guests his highness and Huawei Middle East PR president. They also awarded tech women (all female students from the teams)
