The second edition of the Computing and informatics Annual Symposium was held virtually via Zoom with high level of participation from leading industry partners, faculty, and students.
The symposium started with a UAE National Anthem followed by a recitation of the Holy Quran.
Then the Dean of the College of Computing and informatics, Prof. Mohammad S. Obaidat, thanks His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah, and The President of the University for his vision in establishing the College of Computing and Informatics in order to serve the UAE National Agenda to provide move to the Knowledge and digital economy by offering emerging programs in digital and ICT technologies.
Next, Prof. Mohammad S. Obaidat, Dean of College of Computing & Informatics and CIAS 2021 General Chair, talked briefly about major achievements of the college and its faculty despite countless challenges faced.
The Dean recognized the advisory board of the college chaired by HH Fahim Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, and acknowledged the honored guest HE, Aisha Bin Bisher, and HE Sameer Abdulhadi, members of the College Advisory Board, among other distinguished guest speakers and international attendees who were updated with the college achievements over the last year or so.
Dr Naveed Ahmed, Chair of the Department of Computer Science moderated the plenary Discussion titled as "The Role of Interactive Tools in Online Learning Environment." revolving around various interactive education tools and gamification strategies that have shown extreme value particularly within the distance education context enforced due to COVID 19.
The panel had representative experts from Mr. Yaman Hakmi CISCO, Mr. Eyas Hawari form Huawei, besides several leading faculties from the CCI who pioneered in their deployment for these tools in different courses.
The second research session of the symposium chaired by Dr. Iman Akour, Chair of the Information Systems Department, explored various research work. Six papers from faculty and students of Information Systems, Computer Engineering, and Computer science department presented their research, followed by Q & A.
Followed by a session for two keynote speeches from the industry leading experts:
Mr Mahmoud Rabi, Cyber Security Specialist, Cisco, talked about "Real-world attacks, attack kill chain, and the necessity of building a zero-trust architecture."
Mr Eyas Hawari, Regional Director – Cloud & AI Business Group, Huawei, talked about "The Critical Role of Advanced Technologies in our Future.
The third session of the symposium highlighted further research work from various academics and students from the college as per the outline presented below.
The symposium was closed with rembarks and appreciation certificates presented to keynote speakers and participants by Prof. Ashraf Elnagar, Program Chair of CIAS 2021, and Prof. Mohammad S. Obaidat, General Chair of CIAS 2021.
Overall, over 70 participants attended this virtual event moderated by Dr. Mohammed Lataifeh which has proven to bridge very much needed collaboration with leading industry partners for the second consecutive year of its establishment.
