Course Content:
CCrISP is an interactive course that explores the skills and knowledge needed to look after surgical patients, including those who are deteriorating or at risk of doing so. Expert faculty will help you develop practical, theoretical and personal skills so that you can assess and manage critical situations in a systematic way. CCrISP is relevant to all specialties. However, in-course examples are predominantly taken from general surgical patients.
You will participate in a variety of practical training sessions during the CCrISP course, including:
1- Learning a system of assessment for the critically ill
2- Understanding the subtlety and variety of critical illness presentation, alongside ways to improve its detection
3- Understanding the importance of avoiding complications if possible
4- Recognizing the surgeon's role in delivering multidisciplinary care to surgical patients.
5- Interacting with nursing staff, other surgeons, intensivists and anesthetists.
6- Delivering the information and support that patients and their relatives require during surgical care.
Learning Outcomes:
After attending this course, you should be able to:
1- Adopt a structured, comprehensive approach to managing surgical patients.
2- Judge which patients are at most risk and plan to reduce their risk of adverse outcomes.
3- Recognize the deteriorating patient.
4- Model your non-operative technical skills in a safe environment.
Course Format:
CCrISP is an interactive course that combines a variety of teaching and learning techniques, such as simulated patient scenarios, case-based skill stations and demonstrations. You will be encouraged to share knowledge and experience with your peers throughout the course. This is an assessed course, and a certificate of completion will be awarded to successful participants.

Participants:
Participants must have done at least two years of training after finishing medical school, including at least six months in a surgical post.
Participants in their first two years after medical school (internships) are not eligible to attend.
Number of participants: maximum 16.
