WiDS (Women in Data Science) UAE 2021 - March 8 & March 20, 2021

The openUAE and Aerospace Center of Excellence at the University of Sharjah participated in the WiDS event. The Women in Data Science (WiDS) is an initiative from Stanford University that aims to inspire and educate data scientists worldwide. This annual event supports outstanding women in the data science field and celebrates their success stories to inspire other women to become data scientists.
WiDS was delivered in UAE on March 2021, which was organized by Susan Malaika, from IBM Data Science, Dr. Manar Abu Talib, from the University of Sharjah and a leader of ArabWIC and a team of WiDS ambassadors. The event began with a talk about empowering data leaders of the future by Her Excellency Dr. Aisha Bin Bishr. 
Two research assistants, Mariam Al Aboudi and Omnia Abu Warga delivered a lightning talk about the utilization of data science and machine learning in their research study. Mariam Alaboudi shared her work in drone detection systems using radiofrequency and machine learning, while Omnia Abu Warga discussed predicting water consumption trends using data-driven models. The regional event included speakers from other universities such as United Arab Emirates University (UAEU), American University of Sharjah (AUS), Khalifa University, and Heriot-Watt University also shared their talk on the WiDs talk.
