University of Sharjah Chancellor Explores Strategic Scientific Collaboration with Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences
As part of his official visit to Kuwait, His Excellency Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, met with Dr. Amina Farhan, Director General of the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS), at the foundation’s headquarters. The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration across several scientific and research domains, with the shared aim of supporting scientific research and fostering innovation in the region.
The visit commenced with a comprehensive presentation by several KFAS department heads, highlighting the foundation’s flagship programs and initiatives in science, technology, education, and the environment. The presentation also showcased KFAS’s pioneering projects in sustainable energy, Artificial Intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, and public health, as well as its prestigious awards designed to support researchers and innovators in Kuwait and the wider Arab world. These awards, the presenters noted, play a vital role in promoting scientific excellence and recognizing outstanding research talent.
Prof. Al Naimiy expressed his deep appreciation for KFAS’s pivotal role in empowering scientific research and innovation, commending the foundation’s ambitious forward-looking vision. Moreover, he outlined the University of Sharjah’s advanced capabilities, including its specialized research centers, institutes, and state-of-the-art scientific facilities, which have established the University as a regional leader, particularly in the fields of space sciences, renewable energy, AI, cybersecurity, and environmental sciences. These fields, he noted, closely align with KFAS’s strategic priorities.
Emphasizing the University’s commitment to academic and research excellence, Prof. Al Naimiy underscored Sharjah’s ongoing efforts to expand its international partnerships and leverage its scientific resources to serve society and develop innovative solutions to future challenges.
The meeting concluded with Prof. Al Naimiy extending an official invitation to KFAS to visit the University of Sharjah. He encouraged the foundation’s leadership to explore the University’s academic programs and research institutes firsthand, with particular emphasis on the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology (SAASST). The invitation aims to pave the way for joint research initiatives that will contribute to building a knowledge-based economy and elevate the standing of scientific research across the Arab world.
