Sharjah University students have flexed their creative muscles, designing and installing a pop-up shop for a London-based fashion brand.
Called QASIMI, the fashion brand, founded in 2015, focuses on crafting understated and refined garments from a perspective that reflects its multicultural origins.
Two Emirati students, Munira Ali Ahmed Salim Almazroua and Fatima Mohamed Khalifa Alghfeli, have designed the pop-up installation currently displayed at Sharjah's AlShanasiyah Souq to show Qasimi Fashion's spring 2023 collection.
Inaugurated in early February, the shop is Qasimi Fashion's first appearance in Sharjah.
The two students were supervised by Asil Albaghdadi, Interior designer and lecturer at the College of Fine Arts & Design.
“This idea is represented by the Hawdaj – Camel palanquin (for Camel Seat) which camels carry along travel paths stopping for rest in desert oases," said Dr. Albaghdadi.
“This concept is deeply rooted in many cultures across the world and shall be reflected in the layout and ceiling," she added.
“The entire space will vividly present a story of journeys across the world."
The brand's narrative revolves around the idea of an urban nomad who journeys the world.
The brand reflects a cultural dialogue and exchange, seeking to unite through the medium of clothes.
The installation is designed to showcase Qasimi Fashion in the Sharjah Biennial 2023, an exhibition of contemporary art, where over 150 artists from around 70 countries display their work.
