15 UNIVERSITY OF SHARJAH ACADEMICS We use A cloud-based platform to assess our programs. This system provides specialized tools that enable users to document and align learning outcomes and map them to goals and standards. TEACHING & LEARNING METHODS We follow a student-centered, outcome-based approach toward learning across all programs of study and adhere to one of four ultra modern methods of program delivery. The medical colleges follow a hybrid team-based (TBL) and problem-based (PBL) learning system that allows students to learn through problem solving within small groups. This contemporary learning approach helps students understand thinking strategies and acquire their required domain knowledge. This methodology is adopted by globally renowned universities like McMaster University in Canada and Maastricht in the Netherlands. Our Fine Arts and Design programs are delivered through a studio-based module system in which students experience an entire module over the course of a year. A module is usually taught by several instructors and consists of an entire project. The Community College adopts a hands-on experience and vocational training method, while all other programs follow the traditional credit-hour based system. UoS adopts the latest in cutting-edge methodologies for learning and training. We offer problem-based learning, internships, clinical training, and on-site live simulation like our virtual stock market display monitor in our College of Business Administration. LEARNING SUPPORT SYSTEMS The IT Center offers technical support through programs such as “Learning Management Systems” and “Blackboard” to facilitate learning, teaching and videoconferencing. The importance of practical learning in educational programs is emphasized with fully equipped and advanced laboratories in the disciplines of science, dentistry, engineering, health sciences, medicine, computer science, and ESl among others. These approaches provide skills that enable active and tolerant listening and help students master content, give and receive constructive criticism, and participate in constructive debates. ASSESSMENT OF OUR PROGRAMS We use a cloud-based platform called TaskStream for assessment, accreditation and our e-portfolio. This system provides a centralized information and communication hub for academic and non-academic outcomes assessment, planning and program review. TaskStream offers specialized tools that allow users to document learning outcomes, align outcomes to institutional goals and standards, develop assessment plans, create curriculum maps, manage faculty credentials and improve education based on findings. The Medical Colleges follow a hybrid teambased (TBL) and problem-based (PBL) learning system that allows students to learn through the experience of problem solving within small groups. DID YOU KNOW?
