Admission Requirements Education System General Requirements General Requirements A secondary or high school graduation certificate. Education should normally consist of a minimum of 12 years of study. Transcripts from your senior high school along with your graduation diploma or certificate, and any graduation exam results. Applicants should indicate their order of preference of specializations on the application form Applicants are assigned their majors according to the following: student’s preference, the student’s grade average and the capacity of each college. The minimum average required by Ministry of Higher and Scientific Research Education for admission to university programs is 70% however the average required for admission to UOS is usually much higher and admission to most program is highly competitive. February 2022 Note: Since most programs have a limited capacity, having these minimum requirements does not guarantee admission. British Based System British Secondary Certificate (IGCSE, GCSE, GCE). Completion of 12 years of school upon obtaining the High School Certificate and able to demonstrate proof. Students should have completed at least (7) courses successfully in the (O-Level) with IGCSE/GCSE certificate and in the A-level/AS Level) the (7) courses should be distributed as the following: 1. 5 courses in (O-level) + 2 courses in (AS Level) 2. 6 courses in (O-level) + 1 course in (A Level) with a GCE certificate in at least four of the following areas of study: mathematics, languages, social studies and sciences, art and design. The applicant must have taken Chemistry and Biology courses in the (O Level), (AS Level) or (A-Level) and attained at least a minimum grade of (B) in the (AS Level) or (C) in the (A-Level) in one of these subject. The student’s grade on the (O Level) test with a IGCSE/GCSE certificate should be a minimum of (C), the student’s grade on the (AS Level) with a GCE certificate should be a minimum of (D) and the student’s grade on the (A Level) with a GCE certificate should be a minimum of (E). The (7) courses should be calculated into the British High School certificate. • • • • • High School Certificate or its Equivalent (in Advanced) A minimum average of 75% for admissions to the Colleges of Engineering, Health Sciences and 70% for the College of Sciences. Students admitted to the College of Engineering is required to take a proficiency tests for Mathematics and Physics. A minimum average of 90% is required for admission to the College of Medicine, a minimum average of 85% for admission to the College of Dentistry and 80% for the College Pharmacy. • • High School Certificate or its Equivalent (in Advanced or General) A minimum average of 70% for admissions to the Colleges of Shari’a and Islamic Studies, Business Administration, Law, Fine Arts and Design, Communication, College of Arts Humanities and Social Science. The College of Communication requires candidates to attend an interview. • • • • • American Based System High School Diploma or its Equivalent (The International Bachelor Degree) Completion of 12 years of school upon obtaining the High School Certificate and able to demonstrate proof. A certified certification for secondary grades 10, 11, and 12. The High School Certificate must be accepted by the government universities in the country from which the certificate was obtained and proof of this must be presented (for student who studied outside the UAE). The student’s track (i.e. General or Advanced ) shall be determined by what the student studied in grade 12. Students should have completed at least (6) courses successfully, within at least four of the following study areas: Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Languages (with English as the language of instruction). The applicants who want to apply to the college of Medicine, Dental Medicine or Pharmacy must have completed two courses of Biology, two courses of Chemistry, and at least one course of Physics in the last three years (G10, G11, G12).
