Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) is one of the first departments in the college of engineering to offer an undergraduate degree program, namely the Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE) with an optional concentration in Environmental Engineering. In addition to the BSCE, the CEE Department offers three graduate programs: Master of Science in Civil Engineering, Master of Science in Environmental Science and Engineering, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Civil Engineering. TheDepartment of Civil Engineering is furnishedwithhighquality state-of-the-art equipment to facilitateexperimentation, teaching, research, and consultation. The equipment comes with excellent computerized data acquisition systems. All laboratories are supervised by highly qualified and well-trained technicians. UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS Bachelor of Sciences in Civil Engineering The CEE Department offers an undergraduate Civil Engineering Program which leads to a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering. The Program provides students with the opportunity to cover various sub-fields of civil engineering through the choice of final year technical electives and senior design projects. The Department also offers, under the umbrella of the Civil Engineering Program, a Concentration in Environmental Engineering. PROGRAM OF STUDY As a student in the Civil Engineering Program, you will receive a broad foundation in mathematics, chemistry, physics and engineering technology, followed by core civil engineering courses covering a wide range of the main civil engineering disciplines including: Construction, geotechnical engineering, materials, structural engineering, surveying, transportation, water resources, hydraulics and environmental engineering. Subjects in these areas are introduced through weekly lectures, tutorials, and laboratory assignments with emphasis on principles, analysis and design. Laboratory classes accompany some courses to develop practical engineering skills and reinforce the theoretical background and basic knowledge obtained in lectures. During their final year of study, students are required to complete a comprehensive and multidisciplinary capstone design project and feasibility study on the development, complete analysis and design of a civil engineering project. GRADUATE PROGRAMS Master of Science in Civil Engineering The Department offers a Master of Science in Civil Engineering (MSCE) program. The program aims to prepare graduates to confidently confront current and future challenges in an exciting profession and equip themwith advanced knowledge, and practical application skills, and to excel well beyond what is expected. That is achieved through providing the best education possible to our students and conducting state-of-the-art research to serve the local, regional, and international communities. Master of Science In Environmental Science And Engineering The Department offers a multi-disciplinary Master of Science in Environmental Science and Engineering (MSESE). The program was launched in Fall 2020-2021 and is now running with more than 30 students. The program aims to provide the opportunity for qualified graduates in different disciplines from science and engineering to advance their knowledge and skills in modern environmental perspectives and challenges. It also aims to engage students in multidisciplinary fields with independent and collaborative research in academic, governmental, and industrial contexts, and to support the development of quality and relevant research, especially applied research in pertinent environmental fields to UAE and the region. Doctor of Philosophy in Civil Engineering The Department offers a Doctor of Philosophy in Civil Engineering (PhDCE) program. The program aims to provide qualified engineers with the opportunity to advance their careers through knowledge discovery skills in the modern civil engineering trends. The program also intends to enable its students to advance to higher levels of competency in their profession through exploring advanced theory and design procedures and to support the development of quality research in the various areas of Civil Engineering, particularly applied research with an impact on the community. Additionally, the program helps to satisfy the demand and national need for highly-educated, qualified, and specialized engineers who can contribute to and lead scientific and technological development in the UAE and the region. Department of Electrical Engineering The Department of Electrical Engineering is one of the first departments in the college that admitted students in the university in 1997. Over the years, the Department of Electrical Engineering has established a reputation for excellence in teaching, research and community service. UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronics Engineering Integrating modern science with practical applications is core to advanced technology, particularly in Electrical Engineering. Electrical engineers are involved in all areas of today’s information society. The advancement in modern technologies, such as the Internet, mobile communication, high performance computers, power plants, renewable energy, and robotics, is based on applied electrical and electronics engineering principles and systems. The curriculum offered by the Department of Electrical Engineering teaches timely engineering principles and concepts that are utilized to solve relevant engineering problems. This is done through emphasis on problem formulation, analysis and design capability, practical implementation and laboratory work carried out through team projects. Highly qualified faculty members teach core and elective courses, while students enjoy the flexibility of choosing departmental electives in various areas of electrical and electronics engineering. 10

PROGRAM OF STUDY The Electrical and Electronics Engineering program teaches students comprehensive and profound engineering principles such as analysis, problem formulation, design and implementation of electrical and electronics systems. Students in this program grasp these engineering principles through various areas of specialization including: • Electronic circuits and systems • Automation and process control • Signal processing • Electrical power engineering • Instrumentations and measurements • Wired and wireless communications systems • Miscellaneous topics and subjects related to electrical and electronics engineering. The departmental required courses cover the main areas of electrical and electronics engineering which include: AC and DC circuit analysis, electronic circuits, electromechanical systems, signal processing, electromagnetics, communication systems, control theories, power systems, and digital systems. These courses give the students a strong foundation upon which to build. Students receive theoretical information in weekly lectures and tutorial sessions. In addition, most “departmental requirements” include practical hands-on experience in a laboratory environment. To cap their development, students are required to complete a design project in their final year. GRADUATE PROGRAMS Master of Science in Electrical and Electronics Engineering The department offers a Master of Science program in Electrical and Electronics Engineering that prepares its graduates to confidently confront the challenges of the Information Technology revolution and prepare them for highly rewarding careers by providing advanced knowledge and skills. The department aspires to deliver world-class engineering programs and excellence in teaching and research. Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering The MSBME program accepts students from different undergraduate disciplines to be admitted to this program. As such, in order to provide the best learning experience to the graduate students regardless of their undergraduate background, the program is designed to help the student bridge the gap between their background and the MSBME program. Doctor of Philosophy in Electrical & Computer Engineering The Department of Electrical Engineering (EE), College of Engineering and the Department of Computer Engineering (CPE), College of Computing and Informatics jointly offer a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering. The Ph.D. program’s main goal is to provide advanced knowledge in Electrical and Computer Engineering topics with in-depth research experience. The program delivers a comprehensive list of courses based on the fundamentals of applied sciences, research and optimization methodologies focused on cutting-edge subjects in electrical and computer engineering. Department of Architectural Engineering The Department of Architectural Engineering offers a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering degree as a five year (10 semesters) program as well as two Master programs: Master in Conservation Management of Cultural Heritage and Master of Science in Architecture. UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering The Architectural Engineering Department provides an internationally-competitive educational program, by establishing research, and offering technical services related to Architectural Engineering, and integrated systems. In addition to providing theoretical knowledge, the Program is designed to develop students’ practical and design capabilities in the following three areas. • Architectural Design: emphasizing spatial relationships; functional layout and site treatment. • Structural Analysis and Construction Systems; management and construction practices. • Environmental Control Systems; energy efficiency and conservation and other areas of building services dealing with the environmental behavior of buildings. Additionally, the BSc program familiarizes and exposes students to local and international architecture as well as urban planning and design. PROGRAM OF STUDY Students spend their first year acquiring foundation skills that form the basis for later core course requirements. The intermediary program stage enables students to gain knowledge of the design process and related engineering topics. The advanced level prepares students through holistic training by exploiting acquired skills and knowledge in completing advanced design projects. The upper level represents a culmination of the skills and knowledge acquired during earlier stages of the program. Students master design components required in the application of building techniques and generate complete detailed projects to prepare them for their future professional careers. 14

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES In addition to career opportunities as practicing engineering architects, the BSc enables students to acquire basic parallel skills for a career as an architect or building teammanager, urban planner, property developer, project manager, environmental consultant, or one of the many other types of building services consultant. GRADUATE PROGRAMS Master in Conservation Management of Cultural Heritage The Architectural Engineering Department, University of Sharjah, in partnership with the International Centre for the Conservation and Restoration of Monuments, through its regional office ICCROM –Athar in Sharjah, offer this Master program in Arabic. It is one of a kind in the Arab world. It consists of two tracks: museum management (movable heritage) and management of cultural heritage sites (immovable heritage). The program is a unique one due to its interdisciplinary approach, distinctive and flexible delivery format, regional focus, distinguished faculty, and links to the international heritage community. It equips graduates with the required knowledge and practical skills in various disciplines in conservation and management and covers a wide range of topics such as the conservation of built heritage and museum collections, heritage presentation and interpretation, disaster risk management of cultural heritage and World Heritage management. Master of Science in Architecture The Department of Architectural Engineering offers a Master of Science in Architecture program. The Program is research based, consists of 33 credit hours, and normally requires 2 years of study. In response to the interest of prospective students and potential employers of future graduates from the Program and to bolster promising and much needed fields of research and innovation, the Program covers the areas of urbanism, sustainable architecture, and digital design and technology. Department of Industrial Engineering &Engineering Management The field of Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management (IEEM) combines mathematics, sciences, engineering analysis, and basics of business management in order to continuously improve system production and efficiency. UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management The Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management (IEEM) prepares students for industrial practice as process/product design and optimization, project management, supply chain management, logistics, facility planning and management, quality control, occupational safety, economic analysis and management of operational systems. Industrial engineers focus on the integration of man, material, methods, money, knowledge and technology. The Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management discipline aims at system optimization and efficient utilization of resources by eliminating waste of time, material, energy and other recourses through continuous improvement to achieve customer satisfaction. The program utilizes tools and methods of analysis and business practices to enhance problem-solving abilities through theoretical, laboratory, team projects, training and co-op (internship). 16

It is also suitable for students who wish to prepare themselves for a doctoral program in order to seek careers in academia or as senior researchers in public and private organizations. Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering Management This program is designed to suit students who are interested to be researchers in Engineering Management as well as those who hold or seek managerial and decision-making positions in public and private organizations characterized by innovation and technological leadership. Graduates of this program are expected to competently fill key positions in their fields of interest and to lead the ongoing process of modernization and development in the United Arab Emirates and abroad. Department of Sustainable& Renewable Energy Engineering The Sustainable and Renewable Energy Engineering (SREE) program provides its students with in-depth instruction required to accomplish successful integration of systems that include generation, storage and distribution of energy from sustainable and renewable energy sources using appropriate analytical, computational, and experimental practices. UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS Bachelor of Science in Sustainable and Renewable Energy Engineering The program’s primary mission is to deliver education to produce high-quality solution-oriented engineers in the various fields of sustainable and renewable energy, to engage in energy research and development of national and regional relevance, and to provide expert consultancy on energy issues. PROGRAM OF STUDY The academic program leading to the Bachelor of Science in SREE provides students with a blend of fundamental topics in mathematics, the physical and social sciences, and the basics of chemical, mechanical and electrical engineering, emphasizing sustainable and renewable energy engineering. The program sets its focus on educating students on two aspects: Identifying and employing the best practices to propose an effective and efficient solution in the design of energy systems; and learning methods for generating, storing, and transporting energy from renewable sources such as solar, wind, hydroelectric, geothermal and biomass from a technical, economic, and environmental point of view. 20

GRADUATE PROGRAMS Master of Science in Sustainable and Renewable Energy Engineering The SREE Department offers a Master of Science in Sustainable and Renewable Energy Engineering (MScSREE) Program. The overall objective of the MScSREE Program is to provide qualified engineers and scientists with the opportunity to advance their knowledge and expand their skills in the energy engineering specialization. The intent is also to prepare students to conduct independent and collaborative research in academic, governmental, and industrial contexts. Students will participate in knowledge exchange and improvement, research design and analysis, and knowledge/ technology transfer throughout the process. The program is also intended to support the development of a critical mass of researchers, especially applied research, in the Energy fields in UAE and the region. CAREER OPPORTUNITIES SREE graduates may seek employment in the design, testing, development, manufacturing, and operating of sustainable and renewable energy systems, as well as in broader engineering settings. Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering The Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering offers three undergraduate programs namely Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Bachelor of Science in Nuclear Engineering, and Bachelor of Science in Chemical and Water Desalination Engineering. The department also offers a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering program. UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering Mechanical Engineering is one of the broadest engineering disciplines. It applies the principles of engineering, material science, physics and mathematics to design, analyze and manufacture machines of all types including automobiles, airplanes, rockets, submarines, power generation systems, biomedical instrumentation, robots, manufacturing systems, household appliances and many, many more. PROGRAM OF STUDY The Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering is a four-year program that provides students with a broad scientific and technical background in this field. During the first three semesters, there is a focus on basic sciences like mathematics, physics, and chemistry. The following three semesters include courses and labs that are more specialized and closely related to mechanical engineering like manufacturing, mechanics of solids and fluids, heat transfer, and thermodynamics. In the final semesters of their study, students take advanced courses in mechanical engineering, undergo 2 courses of practical training spread over 2 usual semesters., and complete senior design projects. Bachelor of Science in Chemical and Water Desalination Engineering Chemical and Water Desalination engineering is the applications of engineering, science, mathematics, and economics for the development of new products and/or processes or improve an existing one. The chemical & Water Desalination Engineering at the University of Sharjah is a pioneering program in the world that integrates Water Desalination into traditional Chemical Engineering curriculum. The CWDE Program is a unique program providing specialist skills and knowledge on Chemical Engineering and its specialty in the critical topics of desalination systems including thermal and membranes technologies. CAREER OPPORTUNITIES Chemical and Water Desalination Engineering program graduates will be well equipped with necessary knowledge and skills for a variety of career paths in various industries, government agencies, research institutions, and environmental institutions. The graduates of this program have an excellent careers opportunity in the industry such as oil and gas, petrochemical, chemical processing, food and beverages, pharmaceuticals, bioprocess, water resources, water industry, energy industry, engineering consulting and environmental consulting. The graduate may also purse careers as engineers in the governmental department and environmental institutions as well as research engineers with research instructions and academic institutions. PROGRAM OF STUDY The Bachelor of Science in Chemical and Water Desalination engineering is a four-year program that provides students with a broad scientific and technical skills and knowledge. The first four semester semesters focus on mathematics and basic sciences such as physics as well as fundamental courses for chemical and water desalination engineering such as applied fluid mechanics, heat transfer, thermodynamics, water chemistry, mass transfer, and chemical reaction engineering. In the final four semesters of their study, students take advanced courses in chemical and water desalination engineering that include engineering economics, modeling and simulation, process control, plant design and cost analysis, membrane technology, membrane separation processes and thermal system design. The students will also undergo two courses of practical training spread over two usual semesters and complete a senior design project. GRADUATE PROGRAMS Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering The Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering at the University of Sharjah has developed a Master of Science program in Mechanical Engineering that would contribute to confronting the engineering challenges facing the industries. The first student batch has started the program in Fall 2022. The MSc in Mechanical Engineering will provide in-depth knowledge on three tracks, namely Thermo-fluids and Water Desalination, Solid Mechanics, and Materials and Manufacturing. The addition of Water Desalination to the thermo-fluid track constitutes a unique aspect in this MSc program.
