ABOUT CoBA The College of Business Administration (CoBA) is one of the oldest and largest colleges in the University. The College started in 1997 with 160 students and now has over 1420 students. Located on one of the most impressive campuses in the world, CoBA has played its part over the years by providing the Emirate of Sharjah and the UAE with skilled managers to lead the astronomical developments in the region. Our College aims to prepare the managers of tomorrow to lead the development and advancement of the region and be effective leaders of local, regional and global organizations. FACILITIES AND RESOURCES CoBA hosts an excellent learning environment with state-of-the-art lecture theatres, multiple syndicate rooms, UoS Financial Markets trading rooms including Bloomberg terminals, an executive MBA, MBA and DBA suite, and a highquality lab and other learning space for students and staff. Students also have access to impressive library facilities, which provide comprehensive study facilities and access to research databases, online journals and other leading information services. • CoBA invested in a wide array of software applications installed in the business labs’ PCs among others: Microsoft Visual Studio, Microsoft Project Management, SQL Developer, Netbeans, JGrasp, Star UML, Eclipse, and NVivo (For Post Graduate Students). • CoBA has also licenses for statistical applications that can be used by both faculty and students: Eviews, SPSS, Smart PLS, and Stata. • Faculty and students have also access to the following databases: BankFocus Database, Osiris Database, Refinitive, and DataStream Database • The Bloomberg Lab located in the Men Campus and it has 12 terminals where students can access Bloomberg, which is considered one of the most important tools to teach finance courses. Our faculty have four Bloomberg terminals dedicated for their research use. • Harvard Business School Publishing for postgraduate students. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS A student who meets the university’s admission requirements and chooses a Business program (major) as a desired program of study will be admitted to the university as a business student. Students are strongly advised to carefully review the university catalogue for admission and degree requirements as well as all related academic policies. I. Making the grade Students with a minimum overall average of 70% on the UAE Secondary School Scientific or Literature Certificate or its equivalent, as approved by the Ministry of Education, may apply for admission to the College of Business Administration. II. English proficiency tests All new students applying to the College of Business Administration are required to obtain a passing score on one of the English language proficiency exams recognized by the University of Sharjah. Students may take the institutional TOEFL exam at the University of Sharjah upon registration and must achieve a minimum score of 500. The University of Sharjah also accepts a minimum of 61 on the international iBT TOEFL (Internet-based exam), or a minimum of 5.0 on the academic IELTS exam provided that the student’s test score certificate is still in effect. 6 7 UNIVERSITY OF SHARJAH - COLLEGE OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

OVERVIEW OF CoBA UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS Bachelor of Science in Accounting Our Accounting program is accredited by ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA and CPA Australia and provides the students with high quality tuition to equip them with the most up-to-date accounting knowledge and applications. The program teaches the students how to utilize theoretical knowledge and apply it successfully and ethically in business dealings and at work with governmental and non-governmental organizations, institutions, and companies. Careers include working in the areas of financial accounting, managerial accounting, internal audit, external audit and taxation for all types of businesses (public, private and others) at all sizes (small, medium and large sizes companies). In short, accounting and its related fields are requested in everywhere. Bachelor of Science in Finance This program aims to achieve excellence in finance education through teaching, research, and service. The program will provide you with knowledge about the major concepts and practices of finance to qualify you for careers in the various areas of finance such as conventional banking, Islamic finance, trust management, portfolio management, and financial markets. Careers include corporate financing, commercial banking, Islamic banking, financial marketing, and working in investment, finance, real estate, and insurance companies, brokerage firms, and government agencies. Bachelor Of Science In Business Administration - Management - Marketing- Supply Chain Management - Public Sector Management- Human Resource Management Thismajor prepares students for managing businesses and operations in the global economy and gives you a foundation for careers in management, manufacturing, physical distribution, logistics, and many other career related positions including general management, human resources management, operations management, quality management, small business management, and general administration. Marketing fields include sales management, general marketing, services marketing, marketing research, advertising, event marketing and customer relationship management. RESEARCH ACTIVITIES CoBA strives to produce theory-led, practically relevant research that addresses challenges faced by businesses, public organizations, regulatory bodies, and policymakers. Bachelor of Science in Accounting The Department of Accounting aims to enhance the employability of its graduates by providing top class tuition as well as establishing strong links with international professional bodies such as the ACCA, CIMA, CPA Australia and ICAEW. This help ensure that the curriculum of the UoS accounting program is in line with those of top professional bodies. This increases the credibility and employability of our graduates in the jobs marketplace. VISION To be internationally recognized and highly respected in the Gulf region for its excellence in teaching, quality of research and professional services. MISSION To provide learners with a broad and deep knowledge of the latest developments in accounting and auditing. The Department works to prepare learners for a diverse menu of career choices upon graduation, to cooperate with businesses and professional organizations, and to have high quality faculty members with a wide range of expertise to serve the community. OBJECTIVES The objectives of the Department of Accounting are: • Provide academic programs leading to the Bachelor of Science in Accounting for a professional career in this area. • Conduct research in areas related to accounting, for the advancement of the field and its related professions. • Serve the community through offering professional training programs to practitioners and others. • Provide consultancy services to private and public organizations, as well as other needed programs. PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOME (PLOs) It is expected that by the end of the Accounting program, the students will be able to achieve the following: • Record, analyze, interpret and communicate accounting information. • Apply contemporary accounting tools. • Acquire the social and communication skills needed for business careers (i.e. using IT and teamwork, and presentation and research skills). • Understand and respond to ethical and professional obligations and continuous professional education. PROGRAM OF STUDY The department offers a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting, consisting of 123 required credit hours distributed as follows: 1) University Requirements (24 credit hours): • Compulsory Courses (12 credit hours) • Electives from a list of courses (12 credit hours) 2) College Requirements (54 credit hours). 3) Accounting program (45 credit hours): Accounting courses (30 credit hours) consisting of the following: • 21 credit hours of compulsory accounting courses • 9 credit hours of accounting electives • A minor in any field of study in the College (15 credit hours). SEMINARS AND ANNUAL ACCOUNTING FORUM The Department of Accounting conducts a series of seminars every year inviting highly experienced academic and professional expertise to discuss recent local and international accounting and business issues. Besides, the Department of Accounting organizes a highly recognized annual forum for senior accounting students to present their empirical projects in several accounting areas such as financial reporting and disclosure, managerial accounting tools and practices, internal and external auditing practices, and taxation. The Department of Accounting is also keen to upgrade accounting students’ cutting-edge technical skills by organizing several workshops dealing with big data analytics, blockchain, virtual currencies and cloud-based accounting software. These events represent excellent chances for accounting students to get in touch and exchange ideas with potential employers, academic and professional expertise, which increase their employability and open-up opportunities for higher education in the future. “I’m in the right place”, I have always said this during my bachelor degree whenever I attend a competition, event, or even when doing my internship. Bachelor of Science in Finance The mission of the Finance Program is to achieve excellence in Finance education through teaching, research, and service. The program endeavors to provide students with knowledge concerning the major concepts and practices of Finance in order to qualify them for careers in various areas of finance such as conventional banking, Islamic finance, trust management, portfolio management, and financial markets. VISION To be the Department of Finance and Economics of choice in the region for aspiring students, professionals, and scholars for its commitment to learning and scholarship. MISSION The department’s mission is to create and sustain an environment where responsive business scholars educate responsible learners in the fields of Finance and Economics to advance their aspirations in service of their society. UNPARALLELED RESOURCES • UoS Financial Market Simulator: the UOS Financial Market for women has been launched at the beginning of the academic year 2012/2013, and a similar one has been launched at the beginning of the academic year 2013/2014 for men. In fact the College of Business Administration at the University of Sharjah is considered to be the pioneer in the region in this regard. • Bloomberg certificate BMC: BMC is made from elements of Bloomberg terminal which is a platform that contains real time news, data, analysis, research and people information. The terminal has enabled the world’s financial elite since 1981, and today it used by professionals in 174 countries. • Practical training: the Department of Finance and Economics has established strong partnerships with training bodies including Islamic banks, conventional banks, financial markets and insurance companies so that students may receive practical training both in the UAE and abroad. • Graduates from our program are also equipped to successfully complete prestigious professional certification programs, including the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Certified Financial Planner (CFP), the Certificate in Investment Performance Measurement (CIPM) and others. DEPARTMENT ACTIVITIES • Guest speakers, field trips, and competitions: the department invites expert guest speakers from the industry to provide finance students with the latest in finance applications used in the real world and organizes field trips to the finance sector, encourages students to participate in the stock game sponsored by the Dubai Financial. • Annual Alumni forum: the department invites graduates to speak to our students about their experience as students, about their recommendations and hints in the job market. Before students make certain decisions in life, sometimes they get confused, not knowing exactly what path to take. I also found it very difficult at first during my senior year of high school and early stages of my journey to university. Thankfully, CoBA made me feel very welcomed, and soon became my second home. The administration and professors provided full support for the students during on-campus learning, and adapted new ways to do so during online learning. Throughout my years majoring in Finance, CoBA implemented not only theoretical, but also practical methods to ensure that students obtain important skills to apply their major studies and knowledge in the real world after graduation. To hold a Bachelor›s degree from a UAE-recognized university with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3 out of 4 or its equivalence. Students with a GPA of 2.5 to 2.99 may be admitted conditionally provided that they register for 6-9 credits hours in the first semester of their study and obtain a “B” average. Otherwise, a student will be expelled from the program. II. The undergraduate degree must have been achieved by attending no less than 75% of the required period. Students with degrees obtained by distance learning will not be considered. III. Applicants must have at least three years’ experience in a senior managerial position. IV. To achieve the required English Proficiency score. A minimum of 550 in TOEFL or 6 in IELTS (or its equivalence) is required. A student may be admitted conditionally if he/she obtained 530 points or better on the TOEFL provided that the student must enroll in an English language course and receive a TOEFL score of 550 at the end of his first semester of study. The student will be expelled from the program if these two conditions are not met. V. The undergraduate degree should be in a subject that would qualify the student for the graduate major he/she wants to pursue. Students with different majors in their undergraduate degrees may be admitted upon the recommendation of the department after studying the remedial courses assigned by the department. VI.
