The University of Sharjah participated in the activities of the UAE 1st Session Master Conversation Webinar, which was organized by Huawei International under the title "Together, for a Better ICT Talent Ecosystem in the UAE". This in the presence of His Excellency Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, along with Dr. Salah Taher, Vice Chancellor of the University Community Affairs, and the participation of several dignitaries and universities. The webinar session included a discussion of several issues and topics, including learning about the current state of advanced information and communication technology (ICT) in universities, and the strategic plans of universities to advance and develop ICT systems. The session also addressed the contribution and role of ICT in facing the COVID-19 pandemic, and how it can contribute to the development of the educational process and the revival of the global economy.
During his speech in the webinar, His Excellency Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, stressed that the United Arab Emirates has a strong infrastructure in the field of ICT and this is what made educational institutions in all their stages turn into an integrated system of distance learning with ease without stopping as a precautionary measure in facing the COVID-19 pandemic. He stressed that the UAE has launched several initiatives that work to strengthen and develop the ICT sector. His Excellency then confirmed that the University of Sharjah has a strong structure in this field as well equipped with the latest technology to manage the process of education and distance learning. The University of Sharjah, he added, focuses on scientific research in the field of ICT related to education and the development of Emirati talents, and in 2019 the University launched the College of Computing and Informatics, which focuses in a large part of its programs on ICT and artificial intelligence, and the University has many partnerships and scientific cooperation with leading international companies in this field, such as: Dell, Microsoft, Google, IBM, Huawei, etc. A cooperation agreement with Huawei International to enhance and nurture local talents in the field of ICT and provide them with the knowledge and skills necessary for advanced ICT application.
At the end of his speech, he stressed the necessity of establishing test centers for advanced ICT in universities with the aim of developing and arming a generation of scientists and researchers with the knowledge in this vital field, which will play an important role in the future of the peoples of the region and the world.
