The University of Sharjah records a new accomplishment by achieving the first rank among the UAE universities in the field of Applied Physics and Astronomy according to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
This was announced by His Excellency Prof. Hamid M.K. Al-Naimiy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, who confirmed that the University, which operates according to the guidelines and methodological policies set forth by its President His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, which requires continuous development and steadfast progress in global horizons in all fields, and that constitutes the basic principle in the pillars and components of its five-year strategic plan.
He added that the University of Sharjah obtaining the first place at the level of universities operating on the UAE in the field of applied physics and astronomy is a new achievement of which the University is proud. He explained that the classification was done according to the performance of the Department of Applied Physics and Astronomy according to several criteria, perhaps the most important of which is the number of published scientific research on the Scopus database, as well as the number of international citations of these papers that the organization adopts as an indicator of the quality of research published by researchers at the University of Sharjah in the field of applied physics and astronomy. One of the standards is also the reputation of the Department of Applied Physics and Astronomy and the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences and Technology at the local, regional and international levels, as well as the services they provide to the community through consulting and research services that work on community development. Finally, it is also according to the quality of the educational process through evaluation of academic plans and scientific programs and their implementation in a way that is reflected in the scientific level of students and graduates in the labor market.
For his part, the Dean of the College of Sciences Prof. Dr. Nouar Tabet said that this achievement is a new victory for the University of Sharjah that encourages its students and employees to double their efforts to achieve more, and it is the beginning of a long and extended road towards excellence and leadership, because competition is global and we have no choice but to contest this competition.
