As part of the activities of raising the health and pharmacological awareness of migraines, the College of Pharmacy at the University of Sharjah in cooperation with Novartis International organized a workshop entitled "Migraines ... Not Just a Headache", in the presence of Prof. Ayman Noreddin, Dean of the College of Pharmacy, and a number of Faculty members and college students.
During the opening of the Workshop, the Dean of the College discussed the spread of this disease, the difficulties facing its diagnosis and the choice of appropriate treatment for patients. Then Dr. Suzan Nuri, a neurosurgeon at the University Hospital in Sharjah, gave an interactive lecture with students on the mechanisms and causes of the disease, and the most important methods used in diagnosed. It also focused on factors that patients can avoid to reduce disease occurrences and increase control. Then she discussed the most important methods of treatment available, and modern methods such as the use of botox injections and the developed and targeted biological treatments for the disease, which witnessed great successes and wide spread of their effectiveness and the few side effects associated with them.
Dr. Abdel Mawla Abdel Karim, Head of the Department of Pharmaceutical Practice and Treatments, discussed the importance of communication between the doctor and the patient to obtain the best treatment results. Then the Workshop was concluded by Dr. Feras Jassim Jirjees, Assistant Professor at the College of Pharmacy, with a lecture on the role of the pharmacist in providing appropriate drug care to patients, stressing the importance of choosing the appropriate drug treatment for patients to avoid or reduce the side effects of the drug and the complications associated with disease and treatment, and emphasized the presence of many elements that control this choice include the patient's age and health status, and the presence of other diseases. The Workshop also reviewed the most important global recommendations in this field, which aim to reach the ideal treatment. Emphasis was placed on the importance of adherence to treatment by patients, and what the consequences would be in the event of irregular treatment.
