Under the patronage of His Excellency Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, the University organized an interactive meeting with the Students' Council Members, the students groups, clubs, distinguished students, as well as representatives of students with disabilities. The meeting aims to discuss the new strategic projects and programs, which the University is working on to improve the lives of students on campus. This in the presence of the Vice Chancellors and College Deans, and those working on the five-year strategic plan of the University.
During the meeting, the Chancellor welcomed the students and expressed his happiness to meet them and listen to them, discussing the strategy of the University of Sharjah, which was developed in accordance with the general directives of its President, His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah. The strategy focuses on such important aspects as making the student the center of the educational process by improving and developing the facilities that serve the student such as University accommodation, extracurricular activities, libraries, restaurants, in addition to increasing support for students with disabilities. Also, the transition to a smart campus, and the integration of information technology systems to serve students, faculty, and administrative staff members to help the sustainable development in all areas. In addition to the transition to smart classrooms, and increase academic services provided to the educational process.
The Chancellor then congratulated the students for the advanced standing in the UAE the University recently achieved according to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings. The University ranked first in the classification of universities following the criteria of the United Nations' Sustainability Program, and also won the second place in engineering and technology, which advanced its position in this area at the level of universities all over the world to the 400th standing and the 11th standing in the Arab region. This made the University of Sharjah among the top three Universities in the country.
During the session, the audience listened to a brief presentation of the University's strategy for the year 2019/2024, which was presented by those in charge of the strategic plan currently being pursued by the University, which focuses on: teaching and learning, scientific research, industry and community, innovation, student life, and university family including faculty and staff members. The supervisors of each strategy initiative gave a brief about the theme the University is working to implement in this current and future plan. The meeting concluded with an open discussion session to share views and suggestions for the projects and programs run by the University.
