His Excellency Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, extended his congratulations to His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah, for the University's two new international achievements. The University obtained the first place rank along with Khalifa University in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings of universities following the criteria of the United Nations Sustainability Program, and the second place in engineering and technology in the UAE, which advanced its position in this field at the level of universities all over the world to the 400th rank.
The criteria on which the University's first achievement was based on the academic programs offered that stress the application of global sustainability standards. The University is also keen to develop practical programs to save energy, water and waste recycling in a sustainable manner.
Some of the most important criteria on which the University's second achievement was based are: an increase in the number of published research papers in the Scopus Database, an increase in the number of citations of these papers indicating the quality of the research work the University publishes, an increase in the percentage of graduate studies graduates from the PhD programs, as well as the University ranking first in the world in the "scientific outlook" criterion, which indicates the strength and influence of the University in terms of attracting students and faculty members from various nationalities.
Amongst its recent achievements also, the University of Sharjah was awarded the third rank according to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings of the UAE's universities. It advanced two places since its previous years' ranking in the fifth place.
The Chancellor also emphasized that these achievements and many more to come by the University of Sharjah, are thanks to the support of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah for his moral, material, and direct and indirect guidance for the academic and scientific journey of the University locally, regionally and internationally. He stressed that the University of Sharjah is now one of the leading universities locally and regionally as it offers a number of programs in various disciplines including 53 Bachelor's programs, 53 Master's and PhD programs, and one postgraduate diploma program. The number of enrolled students at the various levels exceeds 15 thousand including 2000 enrolled in the Master's and PhD programs, while the number of graduates exceeded 29 thousand.
The Chancellor added that the University of Sharjah's academic and scientific work is based on a number of modern plans and programs, especially in postgraduate studies that are based on the science and technology that the labor markets demands. Not only that, but the University is also are involved in the preparation of various programs, especially the engineering and medical programs that are unique to the University of Sharjah such as nuclear engineering, new and renewable energy, earth and oil sciences, environmental science and engineering, biomedicine and bioengineering, which are often offered in cooperation with international universities.
The new College of Computing and Informatics will also be launching programs based on Data Sciences and new technologies such as virtual reality, drone technology, and robotics. The programs will also include computer engineering, computer science, industrial intelligence, smart city technologies, and blockchain. The University will also offer undergraduate, Master's and PhD programs in sciences, computer engineering, network and information security, and data sciences and their applications in all fields of humanities, administration, engineering, medical and health sciences.
The University of Sharjah is very interested in scientific research that increases its achievements. The scientific research institutes established at the University include interdisciplinary research centers in different fields of research including theoretical, applied, humanities and social sciences in addition to the numerous research groups.
They all work within the framework of improving the level of administrative, academic, research, community and innovative services during the five-year strategic plan: 2019-2024, and in line with technological development. This requires updating the activities of the University as the strategic plan focuses on the student as the main aspect and basis of the educational process.
Finally, thanks to the support of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, the University of Sharjah is leading in the 12th place rank regionally according to the Green Metrics University Rankings.
