The Technology Transfer Office at the Vice Chancellor's Office for Research and Graduate Studies at the University of Sharjah organized a workshop on Patents and Technology Marketing. The workshop aims to strengthen awareness in Intellectual Property and patent procedures, and to encourage students' innovation in ideas that are applicable in real life. Prof. Maamar Bettayeb, Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Studies, attended the workshop along with Dr. Mohamed Al Hemairy, Head of the Technology Transfer Office, along with a number of College Deans, faculty members and graduate students.
Richard Litman and Joshua Goldberg, Patent Attorneys in the United States, conducted the workshop. The workshop covered the following themes: awareness of intellectual property and patent procedures, commercialization and licensing, as well as patent rights. A part of the workshop was also dedicated to Generic Drugs Manufacturing as well as the experience of other research institutes in the USA and opportunities for benefiting from them in the UAE.
The workshop also dealt with the mechanism of converting inventions into commercial marketable products, and the necessary conditions and procedures for obtaining an approved patent. Dr. Mohamed Al Hemairy also explained the methods of marketing inventions during the registration period or after the issuance of the patent through licensing contracts for industrial entities or through start-ups, and responded to the inquiries of researchers and students in the field of registration of inventions and services provided by Technology Transfer Office at the University of Sharjah.
