The University of Sharjah signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Iraqi University of Anbar. The Chancellor of the University of Sharjah Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy and Prof. Khalid Battal Najim, President of the University of Anbar, signed the agreement in the attendance of Prof. Elsiddig Ahmed ElMustafa El Sheikh, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs; Prof. Maamar Bettayeb, Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Studies; Prof. Raafat El-Awady, Dean of the College of Graduate Studies; Dr. Tarek Merabtene Director of the Office of International Relations; and Dr. Ammar Hatem Kamel, Director of the Department of Exchange and Cultural Relations at the University of Anbar.
The MoU aims at developing and strengthening cooperation in the fields of science and culture, exchanging experiences and training students, as well as participating in scientific research, hosting joint seminars and conferences and encouraging research and scientific projects of common interest.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Chancellor of the University of Sharjah welcomed the attendees and expressed his joy in this cooperation. He continued to discuss the 2019-2024 strategic plan of the University, drawn following the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah, and President of the University, as well as showcasing the various research teams that enable the University of Sharjah to reach the highest standings internationally.
The Chancellor then mentioned the new College of Computing and Informatics, which focuses on the fields of artificial intelligence, computer engineering, and other emerging disciplines in the field. Prof. Al Naimiy then talked about the various cooperation agreements the University has with international universities, the various graduate level programs, as well as its state-of-the-art medical campus – considered one of the largest regionally. This in addition to the Dental Hospital, Clinical Centers, and various laboratories that enable the University's students to participate in scientific research projects that serve the University and community.
For his part, the President of the University of Anbar expressed his eagerness to start working on scientific research with the University of Sharjah in the fields of Humanities and Social Sciences while focusing on faculty and student development and qualification to enable the publication of joint research papers. The University of Anbar, he continued, provides its students with the facilities and services required to excel in their fields and exchange knowledge with international entities, such as the University of Sharjah.
