In the Presence of the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden:The University of Sharjah Chancellor Inaugurates the 2nd Technical Meeting on Drones’ Activities Management

His Excellency Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, inaugurated the "2nd Technical Meeting on Drones' Activities Management" organized by the Sustainable Engineering Asset Management Research Group at the University's Research Institute of Sciences and Engineering. His Excellency Henrik Landerholm, Swedish ambassador to the UAE, attended the meeting along with a Swedish delegation from Linköping University and the Swedish Civil Aviation Administration (LFV), and with the participation of local organizations such as Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects (DAEP) and Dubai Air Navigation Services (DANS).

At the beginning of the meeting, the Chancellor welcomed the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden and the accompanying delegation. He expressed his pleasure to continue cooperation with a number of academic and industrial organizations in the Kingdom of Sweden, as well as cooperation with local organizations responsible for the management of drones' activities. The Chancellor then presented a brief about the University of Sharjah including its expanding colleges, and its academic, professional, and graduate programs.

The three-days technical meeting discussed the developments on the joint projects between the two sides, in addition to the launch of a drone simulator that is considered the first-of-a-kind in the region, in collaboration with the Linköping University, the Swedish Civil Aviation Administration (LFV) and the Sustainable Engineering Asset Management Group. The meeting discussed issues related to the challenges facing Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAVs) activities as well as safety and security aspects for use in cities and key performance indicators related to the management of UAVs. The meeting concluded with a discussion of further collaboration between the local and international organizations in areas of scientific research and future development plans. 

Prof. Kamal Youcef-Toumi, Mechanical Engineering Professor, Co-Director of Center for Clean Water and Clean Energy at MIT in the US, and Member of the University of Sharjah's Board of Trustees, attended the inauguration along with Prof. Maamar Bettayeb, Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Studies; Prof. Abdul-Kadir Mohammed Hamid, Acting Dean of the College of Engineering; Prof. Abdallah Shanableh, Director of the Institute of Sciences and Engineering Research; Dr. Imad Alsyouf, Coordinator of the Research Group and Director of the Sustainability Office; and Dr. Ali Cheaitou, Head of the Department of Industrial Engineering & Engineering Management.
