Coinciding with the World Health Day, the College of Medicine at the University of Sharjah organized the events of the Health Awareness Week. Prof. Qutayba Hamid Al Heialy, Vice Chancellor for Medical Colleges and Health Sciences and Dean of College of Medicine, attended the opening ceremony along with Prof. Nabil Sulaiman, Head of Family and Community Medicine and Behavioral Sciences Department and Director of the Sharjah Clinical and Surgical Training Center; as well as a large number of students. The event aims at educating students about the importance of health services, the diversity of health organizations and experiences in the field, and improving health awareness among all segments of society.
The event included a number of research and student projects that addressed a variety of topics about the role of the World Health Organization in health awareness, measuring the comprehensive health coverage and the lack of demand of patients for primary health centers, as well as study the extent of knowledge and awareness of the community of health insurance and comparing between its impact on developing and developed regions. It also addressed the role of social media in comprehensive health coverage, the role of government and civil society in the application of universal health coverage, and its benefits in protecting and preventing diseases for the poor.
