Dr. Lara Nasreddine is an Associate Professor of Human Nutrition and the chairperson of the Department of Nutrition ad Food Sciences at AUB. She earned her PhD degree in Nutrition and Food Toxicology from the “Université de Bretagne Occidentale” in France.   Since joining AUB in 2007, she has been heavily involved in teaching, research and community service, while serving as the coordinator of the Nutrition and Dietetics undergraduate program. Dr. Nasreddine’s main research interests focus on two priorities in nutritional sciences, namely 1) obesity, with a focus on the pediatric population and 2) dietary assessment and the investigation of diet-disease relationships. She has more than thirty publications in international peer-reviewed journals. In her published work, Dr. Nasreddine investigated obesity prevalence, determinants and complications in Lebanese children and adolescents while developing anthropometry-based equations for the assessment of body composition in Lebanese youth. Her program of research in dietary assessment could be defined as characterizing food consumption patterns and nutritional intakes, evaluating dietary exposure to toxic substances and studying diet-disease relationships. Her service efforts in the community reflect her research interests, whereby she has led the development and drafting of food-based dietary guidelines for Lebanese children and adolescents (in Arabic), conducted a national population-based survey entitled “Early Life Nutrition and Health in Lebanon” aiming at investigating feeding practices and the nutritional status of Lebanese under-five children, and developed various culture-specific nutrition education manuals.
