The Award will be given in collaboration with the UoS' "Apprenticeship Program", which sponsors gifted students in a continuous and specialized manner in various key scientific fields, on both the individual and social levels, through distinguished experts, which in turn achieves the best possible investment of the capabilities of gifted students.
At the beginning of the signing ceremony, H.E. Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of the UoS welcomed H.E. Dr. Jamal Al Muhairi, Secretary-General of the Award, stressing that the UoS since it was established by its President His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, has been working on nurturing and developing the community in line with its message, which requires setting bridges of cooperation and development with various national and local establishments. The UoS' role has grown until it is now a research university on par with recognized international universities, thanks to the UoS' high-level research structure. He noted that this agreement will assume such role in the best possible way, by attending to gifted students, adopting their ideas and transforming them into actual projects, which will in turn contribute significantly in the community service and development. The UoS currently offers 31 graduate programs and is planning to launch 50 new graduate programs after obtaining the required academic accreditations, added H.E. the Chancellor.
"The current agreement is a quantum leap in activating the leading Apprenticeship Program, especially with the reputable University of Sharjah. We consider this cooperation a remarkable step for the ambitious program through the UoS' scientific staff and distinguished academic level. We are keen on providing the best quality programs tailored for students, whom are members of the Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Center for Giftedness & Creativity, and also for the Apprenticeship Program, which is one of the most effective gifted people programs. We are looking forward in the coming period to reinforce the UoS' role in polishing the talents of outstanding students and support their scientific specialties, to service the UAE's education system, contribute in improving the educational level and achieve scientific strides that meet the aspirations and ambition of our wise leadership", said H.E. Dr. Jamal Al Muhairi, Secretary-General of the Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Distinguished Academic Performance.
The Apprenticeship Program is an enriching program for gifted student based on providing the gifted student with individual opportunities, which align with his scientific interests and personal capabilities. The program enables the student to scientifically connect with a distinguished expert in the scientific field, in which he excels, by implementing scientific projects that contribute in acquiring scientific, research, personal and social skills together with improving the student's cognitive and problem-solving skills.
The Apprenticeship Program relies on the individual plan, which is built by the expert entity supervising the gifted student, to meet the scientific, psychological and social needs of the student. The UoS will in turn provide scientific equipment and train the gifted students at the hands of elite professors and experts to enable them to acquire specialized research skills in their scientific and literary fields of interest. This will in turn reinforce the scientific and professional orientation of the gifted student at an early age. The UoS will also give the student a chance to engage and become involved in scientific and practical projects that polish his scientific competence, which are capabilities not often available in traditional schools.
Gifted students in the 10th, 11th and 12th grade (general and advanced discipline), whom are between fifteen to seventeen years old and passed the HBRADAP's nomination standards, will be able to participate in the Apprenticeship Program. The Program's specialties include scientific and literary fields such as, medicine, engineering, mathematics, physics, software, space and all types of energy, as well as poetry and composition. The program contains four consecutive levels, which last between four to seven years.
