University of Sharjah Award for Islamic Economy Researches

 (2nd session 2019/2020)

In order to tackle the aforementioned economical and financial challenges and to play a positive and productive role, the Sharjah Islamic Center for Economy & Finance Studies at the University of Sharjah offers this award to researchers, specialists and academics in the field of economics, finance and banking.  It worth mentioning that this initiation is in line with the vision, mission, goals and aims of the Sharjah Islamic Center for Economy & Finance Studies at the University of Sharjah. As the center encourages generating theoretical and practical knowledge, it is calling for the conducting of research, the production of thorough and relevant studies, the dissemination of knowledge as well as innovations in Islamic economics and banking. 

Features of the award:

  • It is the first of its kind in the field of economics and finance studies in the Arab region
  • It is concerned with practical and applied aspects that promote Islamic finance and the development of the banking system locally, regionally and globally.
  •  It is the first step towards creating authoritative sources and references in the discipline of Islamic economics, finance and banking studies at the international level.
  • It is followed up with launching peer reviewed journals specialized in the field of Islamic economics, finance and banking, with an emphasis on originality, integrity and objectivity. 

Objectives of the award:

    1. Encourage researchers, both local and international, in the field Islamic economics, finance and banking
    2. Enhancing creative research and promoting intellectual environments in the field of Islamic economics, finance and banking
    3. Rooting the reality and concept of research scopes in the field of Islamic economics in various domains: Sharia, law and economics.
    4. Activate the role of scientific research to enhance the goods and services provided and offered by Islamic financial institutions.
    5.  Investing modern technology in applied studies related to the field of Islamic economics, finance and banking.
    6. To benefit from research findings, create attractive work environments for experts and specialists in the discipline of Islamic economics, finance and banking and work towards realizing sustainable development for Islamic financial institutions.   

Award areas:

The award is presented to researchers in the following specializations:

  • Islamic Jurisprudence
  • Law
  • Islamic Economy.

Criteria of research papers:

  1. Originality, integrity, objectivity and innovation.
  2. The paper should be a practical applied study that would help enhance and provide solutions to current economic issues and crises.
  3. Should not have won another award or presented at a conference or previously published.
  4. Observance of instructions of research methodology.
  5. To provide the abstract in both Arabic and English in no more 750 words.
  6. The research paper should not exceed 35 pages.
  7. The paper should be typed out in Times New Roman, font 14.
  8. The researcher will be informed of the result of the review and evaluation of his/her paper
  9. The researcher should include his/her curriculum vitae (C.V) along with the research paper.
  10. The researcher should include a copy of his/her passport and latest qualification certificate.
  11. Papers which do not fulfil the criteria shall not be considered.
  12. Copy right of the winning papers is given to the award organization

Evaluation Criteria:

(Importance of the topic 35%)

  • Importance of the topic and its relevance to the award objectives.
  • Reasons for choosing the topic.
  • Originality of the topic and its relevance to the Islamic economy.
  • Creativity, Innovation and contribution to the solving of emerging Islamic economic issues.

 (Methodology 25%)

  • Originality and integrity of literature review references.
  • Statement of the research hypothesis.
  • Research case study.
  • Research design.
  • Data analysis.
  • Scope of the study and its justification.

(Research findings - 20%)

  • Presentation of research findings including discussion, analysis and comparisons with existing literature review.
  • Contribution to the broadening of workers' experience in the field of Islamic economics.

(Researcher skills - 20%)

  • Language and style.
  • Creativity and profusion of ideas.
  • Compilation of the bibliography.

  • Announcement: January 2020.
  • Abstract submission: 15/3/2020.
  • Full paper submission: 15/5/2020.
  • Announcement of results: 1/11/2020.

Researches Dissemination:

The winning researches will be published in a special issue of the 2nd session of the award.
