SIFHAMS Director Participates in Panel at Warsaw International Book Fair

Warsaw, Poland, 28–31 May 2026 – Professor Mesut Idriz, Director of the Sharjah International Foundation for the History of Arab and Muslim Sciences (SIFHAMS) at the University of Sharjah, participated as a panelist in a distinguished session organized by the Sharjah House of Wisdom during the Warsaw International Book Fair (28–31 May 2026).

The panel, titled “Cosmic Encyclopedism: Knowledge Bridges between Philosophy and Nature,” was moderated by Ms. Mahra Alqaseer and featured Professor Michał Kokowski of the Institute for the History of Science, Polish Academy of Sciences, Poland, alongside Professor Idriz.
The session explored the historical and intellectual connections between philosophy, science, and the natural world, highlighting how different civilizations have contributed to the development of human knowledge through interdisciplinary inquiry and scholarly exchange.
During his presentation, Professor Idriz discussed the significant contributions of Arab and Muslim scholars to the advancement of encyclopedic knowledge and scientific thought. He emphasized the holistic nature of the Islamic intellectual tradition, which integrated philosophy, natural sciences, ethics, and spirituality within a unified framework of learning.
He also stressed the contemporary relevance of this intellectual heritage in fostering dialogue between cultures and promoting a more comprehensive understanding of knowledge. Professor Kokowski addressed the evolution of scientific and philosophical thought in Europe and underscored the importance of historical perspectives in understanding modern scientific developments and intellectual challenges. The panel attracted a diverse audience of scholars, researchers, students, and visitors attending the Warsaw International Book Fair. Discussions focused on the role of knowledge as a bridge between civilizations and the importance of preserving intellectual heritage while encouraging innovation and cross-cultural understanding.
The event formed part of the Sharjah House of Wisdom’s ongoing efforts to promote international scholarly dialogue and cultural exchange. Through such initiatives, the institution continues to strengthen global academic cooperation and contribute to the advancement of knowledge across disciplines and cultures.
