EGYPTOLOGIST PROFESSOR ALAIN ZIVIE VISITED SHARJAH INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION FOR THE HISTORY OF ARAB AND MUSLIM SCIENCES
Introduction to the World of Egyptology
Professor Alain Zivie, founder and head of the French archaeological mission affiliated with the French Embassy in Egypt, and Director of Research at the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) in France, is widely regarded as one of the most prominent Egyptologists. Over several decades of field research, he has made significant contributions to the study of ancient Egyptian civilization, publishing numerous scholarly books and research papers that shed light on the secrets of Pharaonic history. Among his most notable discoveries are the tomb of Paranagua, an ambassador of Pharaoh Ramesses II who played a key role in Egyptian-Hittite relations; the tomb of Abdiel, a minister during the reign of Pharaoh Akhenaten; and the tomb of Princess Meritaten, sister of Pharaoh Tutankhamun. On Wednesday, February 21, 2024, Professor Alain Zivie paid an introductory visit to the Sharjah International Foundation for the History of Arab and Muslim Sciences (SIFHAMS), where he met with Prof. Dr. Mesut Idriz, Director of the Foundation, and Professor Mamoun Abdel Karim, Head of the Department of History and Islamic Civilization and Member of the Executive Board of SIFHAMS. The meeting focused on enhancing avenues of joint cooperation between the two sides and exploring future collaboration opportunities in support of their shared academic and research objectives. During his visit, Professor Zivie toured the Foundation’s various departments and facilities, where he was briefed on its activities, events, and the range of services it provides to students, researchers, and those interested in the history of Arab and Muslim sciences.
