EGYPTOLOGIST PROFESSOR ALAIN ZIVIE VISITED SHARJAH INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION FOR THE HISTORY OF ARAB AND MUSLIM SCIENCES
A Brief Introduction to the Field of Egyptology
Professor Alain Zivie is a renowned French Egyptologist and a leading figure in the study of ancient Egyptian civilization. He served as the founder and head of the French archaeological mission in Egypt under the French Embassy, and is a Research Director at the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS). Over the course of his distinguished career, he has contributed extensively to fieldwork and academic research, publishing numerous scholarly works that have significantly deepened understanding of Pharaonic history and culture.
Among his most notable achievements are the discovery of the tomb of Parennefer, an official who served as an ambassador during the reign of Pharaoh Ramesses II and played an important role in diplomatic relations between Egypt and the Hittite Empire. He also discovered the tomb of a high-ranking official during the reign of Pharaoh Akhenaten, as well as the tomb of Princess Meritaten, the sister of King Tutankhamun.
On Wednesday, 21 February 2024, Professor Alain Zivie paid an introductory visit to the Sharjah International Foundation for the History of Arab and Muslim Sciences (SIFHAMS). During his visit, he met with Prof. Dr. Mesut Idriz, Director of SIFHAMS, and Prof. Mamoun Abdel Karim, Head of the Department of History and Islamic Civilization and Executive Board Member of the Foundation.
The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between the two institutions and exploring future areas of collaboration in line with their shared objectives. Professor Zivie was also given a guided tour of the Foundation’s various departments and facilities, where he was introduced to its activities, programs, and services offered to students, researchers, and those interested in the history of Arab and Islamic sciences.
