University of Sharjah and National Center of Meteorology Extend Scientific and Research Collaboration

University of Sharjah (UoS) and the National Center of Meteorology (NCM) have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at bolstering scientific and research collaboration. The agreement, signed at NCM’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi, was formalized by H.E. Dr. Abdullah Ahmed Al Mandous, president of the World Meteorological Organization and director general of the center, and Prof. Maamar Bettayeb, Sharjah University's Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Studies.

The memorandum focuses on supporting joint research projects in meteorology and environmental sciences. It also emphasizes the exchange of expertise among researchers and specialists, the development of training programs for students and researchers through field projects and practical applications, and facilitating the exchange of scientific data aligned with the needs of both parties.

Among the key areas of cooperation envisaged to result from this agreement are joint research studies in climate, meteorology, and related sciences, organizing workshops and training sessions for university students and center employees, and providing UoS students with practical training opportunities at the National Center of Meteorology. Additionally, the two parties agreed to share the use of laboratories and scientific equipment to support their research projects.

The signing ceremony was attended by Prof. Qasim Nasser, director of the Sharjah Smart Center for Climate Resilience, Dr. Walid Ziada from the College of Engineering, and Malik Mahdawi, director of the Community Cooperation Office. Representatives from the National Center of Meteorology included Omar Al Yazidi, deputy director general, and Alyaa Al Mazrouei, director of the Research and Weather Improvement Department.

This strategic alliance signals a significant step towards advancing meteorological science and environmental research in the UAE through education, innovation, and collaborative expertise.
