University of Sharjah and Economic Development Department Join Forces to Drive Sustainable Growth
In a move that reflects the emirate’s commitment to sustainable development, the University of Sharjah (UoS) and the Sharjah Economic Development Department (SEDD) convened a high-level coordination meeting this week to explore new avenues for collaboration. The gathering, held at the University’s campus, brought together Mr. Hamad Ali Abdullah Al Mahmoud, Chairman of SEDD, His Excellency Prof. Esameldin Agmy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, and several senior officials from both institutions.
Chairman Al Mahmoud emphasized the critical importance of bolstering cooperation and coordination among Sharjah’s government entities, stressing the need for unified efforts to unlock the emirate’s full potential. He stressed that such partnerships are essential for advancing sustainable development across all sectors and for translating the visionary directives of Sharjah’s leadership into tangible progress.
Prof. Agmy, for his part, spotlighted the University’s diverse academic programs and its dynamic research institutes, which work hand in hand with academic departments to address pressing societal challenges. He attributed these achievements to the steadfast support and close oversight of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and President of the University of Sharjah. Prof. Agmy also underscored the value of such meetings in enriching students’ academic and professional skills, reaffirming the University’s ongoing commitment to serving as a vital bridge between academia and the wider community, and to fostering a culture of collaboration and social responsibility.
The meeting tackled a range of issues of mutual interest, with a particular focus on expanding practical and professional training opportunities for University of Sharjah students through SEDD. Both sides discussed the importance of integrating academic knowledge with real-world experience, and the pivotal role of academic-economic partnerships in driving sustainable development. The two institutions agreed to intensify research and innovation in economic sectors, support entrepreneurship and start-ups, and work together toward a knowledge-based economy.
Concluding the session, both parties affirmed the significance of such strategic partnerships in supporting Sharjah’s economic development and in preparing a highly qualified national workforce to meet the evolving demands of the local job market.
