The University of Sharjah Launches the Annual Health Awareness Week: Quality of Life

Dr. Amina Al-Marzouqi, Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs at the University of Sharjah (UoS), inaugurated the University’s annual Health, Psychological, and Sports Awareness Week: Quality of Life. Organized by the Deanship of Student Affairs, the event saw the participation of 80 healthcare providers, scientific associations, and student cultural clubs. The opening ceremony was attended by Prof. Dr. Eid Kannan, Dean of Student Affairs, college deans, faculty, administrative staff, and students.

During the opening ceremony, Dr. Al-Marzouqi emphasized that the initiative, now a well-established annual tradition, aims to promote health, psychological, and sports awareness among UoS students, faculty, administrative and technical staff, as well as the broader community. She highlighted that the event aligns with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and President of the University of Sharjah, to raise a generation that is health-conscious and well-educated, recognizing the importance of physical and mental well-being as fundamental pillars of academic excellence and creativity.

Dr. Al-Marzouqi added that tertiary education is not limited to academics but extends to instilling a culture of self-care and holistic healthy lifestyle among students. She reiterated the timeless adage that a sound mind resides in a sound body, and a tranquil psyche is the foundation of creativity, innovation, and excellence.

This year’s awareness week featured a variety of activities and events designed to enhance health and psychological awareness among students, university affiliates, and the local community. The program included a health and culture exhibition, attended by 2,000 students. The exhibition served as a significant platform for promoting cultural and health awareness. Additionally, the week featured lectures, interactive workshops, medical check-ups, competitions, and sports events across various colleges. A notable highlight was the launch of the first-ever forum for psychological counselors in UAE higher education institutions, under the theme, Enhancing Student Quality of Life and Well-being. The event featured other carefully curated programs organized by the Deanship of Student Affairs, all aimed at promoting a healthier, more aware, and well-rounded university community.
