University of Sharjah Hosts UAE Math Day 2025: "Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence"
Under the patronage of His Excellency Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah (UoS), the College of Sciences organized the international forum UAE Math Day 2025: Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence, uniting leading scientists and experts from the UAE and global research institutions. Held by the university’s Mathematics Department under the theme “Mathematics and AI: Dual Engines of Modern Scientific Advancement,” the event highlighted the accelerating integration of mathematical frameworks with intelligent algorithms and cutting-edge technologies.
In his opening remarks, Prof. Nouar Tabit, Dean of the College of Sciences, welcomed the attendees and emphasized the importance of this year’s forum theme, which focuses on the complementary relationship between mathematical sciences and artificial intelligence applications. He pointed out that the college has launched a new program—a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics for Artificial Intelligence—that will be offered starting next fall. He also affirmed that the forum represents a valuable opportunity for professors and researchers to exchange experiences and knowledge to keep pace with the rapid developments in the fields of mathematics and artificial intelligence.
Dr. Firas Ghanem, Chair of the Mathematics Department, noted that this annual event, first launched in 2003, has become a cornerstone for fostering academic collaboration and innovation among researchers and graduate students.
This thrilling event featured keynote lectures by prominent figures, including Dr. Hadi Susanto from Khalifa University, who explored the application of neural networks in branch analysis and dynamics prediction to demonstrate deep learning’s potential in deciphering complex systems. Prof. Cornelis Oosterlee from Utrecht University’s Mathematical Finance Department presented “Fourier Methods and Machine Learning Techniques for Computational Finance Calibration,” showcasing AI-driven mathematical applications in modern finance.
Parallel scientific sessions delved into three core themes: applied mathematics, pure mathematics, and AI-driven applications in education and statistics. Over 30 researchers presented papers on topics ranging from epidemiological modeling and genetic algorithms to AI in education, differential equations, and big data analytics. Interactive workshops and panel discussions examined future collaborations between mathematics and AI, alongside opportunities for institutional partnerships across the UAE and broader region.
