University of Sharjah Celebrates UAE's 54th National Day with Patriotic Spirit and Cultural Festivities

The University of Sharjah marked the 54th UAE National Day with a week-long series of events that vividly reflected a spirit of belonging and unity and celebrated the rich culture and heritage of the nation. The festivities attracted a large turnout from the university community, including faculty members, administrative staff, and students, creating a patriotic atmosphere full of pride in the nation’s achievements and pioneering journey.

The Public Relations Department organized its annual event, "The Emirati Breakfast," attended by the Chancellor, H.E. Prof. Esameldin Agamy, alongside members of the University’s senior administration, faculty, administrative, and technical bodies. The event featured national artistic performances, traditional Emirati dishes, and gifts and prizes for participants. Attendees also toured a heritage exhibition showcasing authentic Emirati culture artifacts.

Opening the festivities, Prof. Agamy extended his heartfelt congratulations to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, as well as to the members of the Supreme Council of Rulers and Crown Princes. He also congratulated His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah and founder of the University, and His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and University President, commending their unwavering dedication to empowering future generations through education and development opportunities.

Prof. Agamy emphasized that the National Day celebration is more than a fleeting memory; it is a moment to reflect on a flourishing nation where the dreams of its youth grow bigger from one generation to the next. “The United Arab Emirates is moving forward with steady and prudent steps, following a wise path that ensures its continued progress and advancement, under wise leadership that places the Emirati people, their well-being, stability, and happiness, at the top of its priorities,” he added.

Turning to the mission of the UoS, Prof. Agamy reiterated the University’s commitment to shaping individuals who contribute meaningfully to the nation’s growth and prosperity. He stressed that the institution sees itself as a genuine partner in building the future, preparing generations equipped with knowledge and values to carry the torch of development and progress while embracing their responsibility toward the UAE’s future.

Separate celebrations were also held by the Deanships of Student Affairs for both male and female students, alongside the annual ceremony of the University Dental Hospital. The events featured a variety of performances and exhibitions, including a sign language rendition of the national anthem in collaboration with the Disability Resource Center. Children from the American School of Creative Science gave different music and dance performances, while renowned poet Ahmed Al-Maqbali recited a patriotic poem. Student Reem Bilal presented her poem titled "Ode to the Union." The festivities included traditional Al-Azi performing arts, a military band, a show by the UAE Falcons aerobatic team, and poetry recitations by Chinese students in cooperation with the Languages Institute. The Sharjah International Private School presented an expressive performance called "Sultan’s Sharjah."

Numerous exhibitions and activities highlighted the depth of national identity, including a classic car exhibition, traditional food stalls, henna painting, an art exhibition depicting the meaning of the National Day, as well as heritage and cultural competitions. Various academic faculties, administrative departments, and student councils participated with photography booths, an art studio, a heritage seating area, and a fashion corner.

The College of Sharia and Islamic Studies contributed with a symposium titled "Harmony Among Muslims: A Legal and National Requirement," featuring academics, specialists, and religious and police leaders who discussed ways to promote legal harmony in society. The symposium also explored the role of the Prophet’s Sunnah in resolving causes of division and evaluated the philosophy of national cohesion and the UAE’s experiences in fostering unity and a cohesive society.

This week of celebrations at the University of Sharjah unequivocally showcased the vibrant patriotism, rich cultural heritage, and united spirit that define the UAE on its 54th National Day.
