University of Sharjah and SNOC Review Progress of Joint Research Projects
The University of Sharjah (UoS) held a coordination meeting with the Sharjah National Oil Corporation (SNOC) to review progress on research projects funded by the corporation under the endowed professorship established through a partnership agreement signed last year by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Studies on behalf of the University of Sharjah. The initiative strengthens collaboration between academia and industry, ensuring that the University’s research output aligns with national priorities for sustainable development.
The aim of the meeting was to exchange technical insights and review the scientific achievements made through the program, which SNOC supports with annual funding of one million dirhams. It was attended by Professor Maammar Bettayeb, UoS’s Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Studies, and Engineer Hatem Al Mosa, Advisor to the President of SNOC and Secretary General of Sharjah Energy Council, alongside faculty members and researchers involved in the funded projects.
During the meeting, researchers presented seven innovative projects, including:
The development of novel electrodes for seawater and wastewater electrolysis
Oil-water separation using AI and CO₂ nanobubbles
Bifacial solar-powered smart farming system
High-efficiency perovskite solar cells
Two-stage anaerobic digestion for hydrogen and methane production
Water and flood management through Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
Gravitational energy storage using oil and gas wells
Participants reviewed individual projects’ milestones, funding progress, challenges, and future strategies, and agreed on a framework for ongoing monitoring and future checkpoints to sustain momentum and achieve joint objectives.
Speaking at the event, members of the research teams highlighted the importance of linking scientific inquiry with industrial applications, noting that such partnerships serve as vital engines for sustainable development in Sharjah and the wider United Arab Emirates.
