The University of Sharjah (UoS) welcomed new faculty members at an orientation session designed to help them navigate the University’s academic culture, professional expectations, and wide-ranging support systems from their first days on campus.

Organized by the Institute for Leadership in Higher Education (ILHE), the orientation session introduced new faculty members to the University’s policies and their responsibilities in teaching, academic advising, and assessment. Participants also explored strategies for academic success, professional relationship-building, and the academic, research, digital, and professional-development resources available across the institution.

H.E. Prof. Esameldin Agamy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, opened the session by conveying the welcome of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University, to the new faculty members as they joined the UoS community.

Prof. Agamy explained that the orientation was designed to help new faculty members connect with university leadership and colleagues, gain a clear understanding of institutional responsibilities, policies, and priorities, and identify sources of support in academic affairs, student services, research, digital resources, and professional development. He added that the session also offered practical guidance for the first semester and the first 100 days of a faculty member’s appointment, linking orientation to the year-round professional-development opportunities offered by the Institute for Leadership in Higher Education.

Prof. Agamy also stressed that the University of Sharjah is distinguished by the cohesion and shared commitment of its academic and administrative community and that this collaborative spirit provides a supportive environment for every new faculty member to begin a successful academic and professional journey.

During the session, the University’s vice chancellors welcomed the new faculty members and emphasized the importance of orientation in helping them integrate into the university community and advance toward academic and professional excellence. They reaffirmed that UoS faculty have access to continuing support, guidance, and opportunities to raise questions, share suggestions, and seek assistance throughout their careers.
