University of Sharjah Ranks First in the UAE in Three Fields in 2026 ShanghaiRanking

The University of Sharjah has earned a place in the 2026 ShanghaiRanking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects in 10 academic fields, ranking first among universities in the United Arab Emirates in three: dentistry and oral sciences, clinical medicine, and nursing.

The results place the University at the top of the national rankings in those three fields. It ranked second in the UAE in five others: energy science and engineering, electrical and electronic engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, and education.

Globally, UoS ranked among the world’s top 200 institutions in three fields: dentistry and oral sciences, energy science and engineering, and electrical and electronic engineering, placed in the 151–200 range in each.

It ranked among the top 300 universities worldwide in clinical medicine, nursing, and mechanical engineering, all of which fell within the 201–300 range. The University also ranked among the top 400 in chemical engineering and telecommunications engineering, and among the top 500 in education and public health.

In a statement marking the achievement, H.E. Prof. Esameldin Agamy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, said the University’s continued progress in global rankings reflected an integrated educational vision established by H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and President of the University of Sharjah. That vision, he said, places students at the center of the educational process and treats scientific research as a bridge to the future.

“The advanced rankings that the University of Sharjah continues to achieve are the result of a scholarly path the university chose years ago,” Prof Agamy said. “Along that path, we decided to invest in the quality of research rather than its volume. Ranking first in the UAE in dentistry and oral sciences, clinical medicine, and nursing means that our research in these fields is globally competitive while serving our community locally. That is the true measure by which we assess our success.”

ShanghaiRanking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects is widely regarded as one of the world’s leading academic rankings and among the most methodologically rigorous. It draws on indicators related to research quality, faculty excellence, the presence of highly cited researchers, international citation databases, the volume of publications in peer-reviewed journals, and the research performance of individual faculty members.
