University of Sharjah Launches Its President’s Football Cup

The University of Sharjah (UoS) will kick off the 2026/2027 University President’s Football Cup next Saturday, Oct. 10, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and President of the University. Organized by the Deanship of Student Affairs through its Sports Activities Department, the competition will be held at the University’s sports stadium and will run through Oct. 25, drawing broad participation from academic and community institutions across the emirate.

Prof. Eid Kanaan, Dean of Student Affairs, emphasized that the tournament carries significance beyond sport. He described it as a university-wide gathering that, in a single event, brings together students from different universities in the Emirate of Sharjah, UoS alumni, and members of institutions based in Sharjah University City. The aim, he said, is to strengthen interaction and communication among the different components of the emirate’s higher education community.

Prof. Kanaan added that the deanship’s commitment to organizing such events reflects its role in fostering a sense of belonging among the University’s students and alumni, building lasting bridges between them and university-community institutions, and reinforcing the values of teamwork and healthy competition. He also noted that the tournament encourages embracing athletics and a healthy lifestyle, stressing that its true value lies in the breadth of participation and the convergence of diverse segments of the academic and university community under one sporting umbrella.

The tournament features intense competition across four main categories, with 14 teams representing the University of Sharjah’s colleges, seven teams from different universities in the emirate, 12 alumni teams, and eight teams from institutions located in University City. Organizers say the event will help identify promising athletic talent, enhance the spirit of competition and camaraderie among participants, and further establish sport as an effective means of building relationships within and beyond the university community.
