University of Sharjah Forgers a New Partnership to Advance the Inclusion of People of Determination
The University of Sharjah (UoS) has signed a memorandum of understanding with AccessAbilities Expo, formalizing its commitment to expanding opportunities for people with disabilities through academic collaboration, research, and innovation. The signing took place during the University’s participation as a strategic partner at AccessAbilities Expo 2026, an international exhibition dedicated to people with disabilities, which runs through October 21 at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC). The agreement was signed by Dr. Salah Tahir Al Haj, Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs at the University of Sharjah, and Ghassan Suleiman, Chief Executive Officer of AccessAbilities Expo, in the presence of Prof. Ahmad Falah Alomosh, Director of the Disability Resource Center at the University of Sharjah.
The memorandum covers a broad range of collaborative areas, including the exchange of knowledge and expertise, the joint organization of programs, initiatives, and events related to people of determination, the promotion of research and innovation, and the development of assistive technologies and inclusive solutions, including artificial intelligence applications and digital tools. It also provides for increasing the participation of the UoS students, faculty members, and researchers in relevant events; raising public awareness of disability issues; and supporting the active inclusion of people of determination in society.
Dr. Salah Tahir Al Haj, Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs at the University of Sharjah, described the agreement as a significant step toward deepening cooperation between academic institutions and organizations working to empower people of determination. “This partnership allows us to channel our scientific and research capabilities into developing meaningful initiatives that improve quality of life and broaden participation across all areas of society,” he said.
Ghassan Suleiman, Chief Executive Officer of AccessAbilities Expo, said the partnership opens new possibilities for translating academic knowledge and research into practical solutions for people of determination. “Collaborating with the University of Sharjah strengthens our ability to turn ideas and innovations into tangible initiatives that make a real difference in people’s lives, supporting their independence and their participation across diverse fields,” he said.
The areas of cooperation outlined in the agreement also include joint academic and scientific programming, the organization of forums, seminars, and specialized sessions, the development and execution of collaborative research projects in disability and inclusive education, as well as training programs aimed at building capacity and promoting a culture of inclusion. The agreement further supports the recruitment of students with disabilities from within the UAE and abroad, the development of transition pathways from education to employment, and the strengthening of internship, professional development, and entrepreneurship opportunities in partnership with relevant institutions and companies.
The University’s participation in the expo is led by its Disability Resource Center, which uses the platform to showcase the University's inclusive education practices and the academic and technical services it provides to students with disabilities. The University is also presenting student success stories and innovative projects as a testament to the creative potential of its students with disabilities. The exhibition provides an opportunity for students to connect with researchers, experts, and representatives from institutions and companies across multiple sectors, opening pathways to professional development and facilitating greater integration into the workforce and broader society.
