Four-day visit brought University leaders to Huawei, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Huawei Connect 2026, advancing cooperation in artificial intelligence, digital transformation and applied research.
A University of Sharjah delegation, led by H.E. Prof. Esameldin Agamy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, has concluded a four-day official visit to the People’s Republic of China, where it held a series of high-level meetings and took part in specialized engagements with Huawei and leading Chinese academic and research institutions. The delegation included H.E. Shihab Alhammadi, Vice Chancellor for Financial and Administrative Affairs, and Dr. Manar Abu Taleb, Research Operations Coordinator in the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Studies.
The visit reflects the University’s continuing effort to expand its international presence in artificial intelligence, digital transformation and applied scientific research. It also advances the vision of H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and President of the University of Sharjah, to build an advanced education and research ecosystem that keeps pace with global technological developments and equips national talent with the tools of the future.
The visit commenced at Huawei’s research and development complex in Shanghai, where the delegation attended a specialized workshop on high-performance computing. The visit also included a tour of the company’s technology exhibition hall and meetings with Huawei leaders to explore potential cooperation in advanced technologies and the development of research infrastructure.
The delegation later visited Shanghai Jiao Tong University, one of China’s oldest and most research-intensive institutions. Ranked 36th globally in the QS World University Rankings 2027, the Shanghai Jiao Tong University is known for its strengths in engineering, computing, artificial intelligence and interdisciplinary research. During the visit, the two sides discussed Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s smart-university model and ways artificial intelligence, smart infrastructure and data-driven systems can strengthen teaching, research and the student experience. The discussions laid the groundwork for exploring future areas of cooperation between the two institutions.
The delegation also participated in Huawei Connect 2026, held in Shanghai from September 17 to 19. The international gathering convened technology leaders, experts, customers and partners to examine the latest developments in artificial intelligence, computing and digital infrastructure. On the final day of the visit, the delegation joined a roundtable discussion and several technical exchange sessions on the future of smart education. The discussions, which included Huawei experts and representatives of the education sector, addressed smart-network security, data-storage solutions for educational institutions and the development of future-ready artificial intelligence skills. The program concluded with a cultural tour of Shanghai.
The visit underscores the University of Sharjah’s commitment to strengthening its position in the global technology and research landscape. It also reflects a strategy that places artificial intelligence and innovation at the center of higher education’s future, supporting the University’s continued pursuit of achieving academic and research leadership regionally and internationally.
