University of Sharjah Advances 45 Places in 2027 QS World University Rankings

The University of Sharjah (UoS) has made a notable leap in the QS World University Rankings 2027, advancing 45 places to rank 283rd globally, up from 328th in 2026. This rise in global rankings reflects clear gains across several key indicators, led by a remarkable improvement in citations per faculty member, alongside stronger performance in academic reputation, employer reputation, and international research network. The University also moved up five places in the indicator for international faculty diversity.

Prof. Agamy added that the most striking development this year was the sharp rise in the number of citations per faculty member, in which UoS climbed 163 places globally to 199th. He explained that this indicator measures the impact of a university’s scientific output within the global research community, and that such progress reflects the growing citation rate of research published by University of Sharjah faculty, a direct sign of the quality and international influence of that work.

He added that the University also posted clear gains in academic reputation, rising 47 places to 393rd globally, and in employer reputation, improving by 14 places to 397th. Both indicators are based on global surveys involving thousands of academics and employers, who assess universities’ reputations and the preparedness of their graduates for the labor market. The university also advanced 16 places in the international research network indicator, which measures the depth and diversity of its research partnerships with institutions around the world, reaching 243rd.

As for international diversity, Prof. Agamy noted that the University of Sharjah maintained a strong position in the international faculty diversity indicator, ranking 10th globally after improving by five places. He said this reflects the University’s ability to attract academic talent from a wide range of nationalities, as well as an institutional environment that remains highly attractive on the international stage.

The QS World University Rankings is among the most prominent global university rankings and a widely used reference for governments, academic institutions, students, and parents when assessing the quality of higher education. Its 2027 edition evaluated 8,808 institutions worldwide and published rankings for 1,504 institutions from 106 countries, including 12 universities in the UAE, based on nine indicators covering research, employability, learning experience, international engagement, and sustainability.
